Hello all!
Little one will be turning one soon, he’s standing well, started being adventurous last couple of days by sometimes taking both hands off whatever he is standing up on. Not walking but very fast at crawling! I’m wondering what footwear to put on him please? I’m a ftm and have no clue! He’s not walking so I thought prewalker but then he is standing so does he need proper shoes?
Thank you in advance for any replies Flowers

I’ve found that Clark’s have a range of crawler shoes, would these be the best option?

Mine never used shoes until they were walking outside so their first shoes were ‘walkers’

Nothing until he's walking unless you have wooden floors and need grip. Mine had some leather soles moccasins for cruising stage.

I delayed using shoes until DD was walking well enough for me to want her to walk on the pavement/at the playground etc. so she'd been walking about a month. At that point I put a soft Startrite prewalker on her.

Even now at 19m she doesn't wear shoes indoors (unless at a museum or other public place).

Creatureofthenight · 26/12/2018 21:32

I also didn’t really use shoes until DD walked, with the exception of some warm booties in winter and sandals for a summer wedding.

We have laminate floor throughout the house which he’s slipping on in his socks. Might seem obvious to take off his socks but worried his feet will get cold. Also his nan is insisting I buy him shoes with the Christmas money she gave him Hmm

DD wore pre walkers at that stage. She goes to nursery so couldn't have her in there with no socks/shoes on on the slippy floor. I get dds from clarks or start rite. I've heard matalan have some but not sure about the quality of them as I've never tried them

CrazyOldBagLady · 26/12/2018 21:40

We put our son in soft leather soled shoes for extra warmth when we go out. He doesn't walk outdoors in these but they are good for baby groups or anywhere with a slippery floor. At home he is either barefoot or in socks, depending on how cold it is. When we need outdoor shoes we'll probably have wellies for the park and get some cheap first walkers from the Clarks outlet, they have a Clarks outlet website too, so you don't need to have one locally to bag a bargain.

PinkDaydreams · 26/12/2018 21:41

Thank you, I’ll give Clark’s a go as I don’t feel confident getting the right size. I’ve got terrible bunions and I’m sure it’s down to ill fitting shoes whilst growing up!

I mean I’ll take him into Clark’s to be properly measured!

Clarks shoes aren't really recommended any more - look into barefoot shoes instead. Happy Little Soles is a great website with all different brands and a very good FAQ section.

PinkDaydreams · 27/12/2018 07:48

Oh really? That suprises me as I thought Clark’s were good. I’d like to purchase from a shop if possible so I can get his feet measured. Are Clark’s shoes roughly the same size do you know?

teaandbiscuitsforme · 27/12/2018 08:08

You can get their feet measured in Clarks but you don't have to buy shoes there!

However, if you read up on barefoot shoes, you just need to know the length of their feet in cm as all children should be in shoes with a wide toe box. The Happy Little Soles website explains it better than I can though! Their customer service is great and they'll advise you on shoes to try and you can order and return pairs as needed. Otherwise you could look at which brands they sell and look for those shoes in shops. Independent shoe shops are the best place to try for better advice than Clarks.

Thank you for your advice Flowers I’ve had a quick look at the website you suggested and think I will purchase from them. I’m going to wait till he’s walking confidently before I get him some shoes. Nan will just have to moan about it!!Grin

Good call. Your feet are precious, and it pays to look after them. DD didn't wear shoes until she started walking outside, because she didn't need them in the house.

Another option is to get little slipper socks with the bits of rubber on the soles.

PinkDaydreams · 27/12/2018 08:57

Why didn’t I think of slipper socks??!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Fantastic idea, thank you!!
