Daytime naps: light or dark?

For those of you who have children who nap in the day, do you make sure their room is dark or not?

Dark :) I wouldn't want to sleep in a light room. Once they internal body clock is sorted so they know the difference between night and day I personally think sleeping in a room as dark as possible helps him to settle and stay in a deeper sleep

We keep daytime naps light with a normal level of noise (not too much as to disturb). For us it helped him to learn the difference between day and night where it was kept darker and quieter and hopefully will mean hes happy to nap when we are about as he grows as is used to the light and noise.

As dark as possible- too light or too noisy my LO can’t drift off. She was a dream to put down on holiday due to those super heavy blackout hotel curtains

11 months old. Always Dark. Same as night time as she naps in her cot in her room. Means she naps for around 2hrs twice a day

I had a sleep specialist (nhs) and she said it should be light.

Cosmoa · 23/12/2018 22:52

Light! She sleeps when she's tired so she has no issue sleeping in the day..

My DS has always slept in the natural light in the day time. If he's tired he will sleep, so we don't create a dark environment for him.
(I read somewhere it's good for them to get to know day and night, not sure how true that is or if it's rubbish or not.)

Dark. DD has been a brilliant sleeper since very early days but only if we get her to sleep in her cot in the dark room. If the room is not dark enough, she has troubles to settle and becomes an overtired nightmare.

Bobbiepin · 25/12/2018 09:05

Whatever the room is. Don't put a light on when it's darker in so her but it's also a bit brighter in summer or earlier in the day and aside from closing the curtains I don't make a particular fuss about it. We were keen to not have a child who could only nap if conditions were perfect. Took a while but she can nap in most places.

*darker in winter

Light naps and in cot/pram to differentiate between naps and bed time, super dark at night to block out sunrise. Had two amazing sleepers
