Hi

My 9 month old has hand foot and mouth, he has been unwell from Tuesday with spots starting weds/Thursday I know how long is a piece of string but in your experience do you think the spots/blisters will have cleared by Christmas Day?! I'm due to be hosting!

When my two had it, it took a while for the spots to disappear completely but certainly they weren’t sore after 3/4 days

Thank you, he doesn't seem sore with the spots at all. Think his mouth hurts as he's off food and he's much more cuddly than usual so I guess he's feeling under the weather still. family are asking if it's safe for them to come I'm not sure what to tell them.

My DS1 had hand foot and mouth at 10 months..it's awful isn't it 🙁
He cried one whole night being so unwell with it.
Make sure you give your baby Calpol..
It is also so so itchy and being so young they can't itch (which is obviously a bonus) but this causes them even more distress..
Go to boots or a pharmacy and get Poxclin!! It's used for itching when babies have chicken pocs, but it's absolutely fantastic for hand foot and mouth!! It's honestly amazing!!! Our baby calmed down straight away and helped reduce the redness of the spots..I can't recommend it enough!

Thank you I'll try and get out for some. He really doesn't seem bothered by it but randomly has given him awful trapped wind 🤷🏼‍♀️

www.nhs.uk/conditions/hand-foot-mouth-disease/ says 7-10 days to clear up

Tigger83 · 22/12/2018 13:58

Is that 7-10 days from onset of symptoms or rash though?!

It says:

You're infectious from a few days before you have any symptoms, but you're most likely to give it to others in the first 5 days after symptoms start
