Hi all

So we purchased a new tv at Boxing Day and now have the old tv ( not smart tv) but can mace smart via kindle stick in storage.

It's been suggested to put in kids room

One nearly 4 the other is nearly 7.

I think they are way too young for a tv I was allowed one till I was 15!

They both have kindle each ( allowed to have on Saturday ) and also bought them google hub for Christmas for music but would like to find out what other parents think with probs and cons of one:

Just to add they share a bedroom so have w bunk bed

Well do you want to encourage them to sit in their room and watch telly together / alone?

dementedpixie · 21/12/2018 18:31

Dd is getting one for Xmas. She is 15

High school age at least and then it will be monitored. I remember watching all sorts at that age that was unsuitable.

Can you put it in your bedroom or another room? If you think you might want to watch two things at the same time then it would be useful to keep but I wouldn't want it in a children's bedroom.

Kikidelivers · 21/12/2018 18:33

14

Kikidelivers · 21/12/2018 18:33

At those ages, over my dead body

SleepingStandingUp · 21/12/2018 18:34

Agree with high school age too. I. Just don't see why anyone would want their kids locked away in their room watching god knows what

Ladytinselmuff · 21/12/2018 18:43

Call me old fashioned, but not in a million years! Rod for your own back if you ask me but maybe you can trust your 2 to only watch when you say it's OK. Mine are terrible screen junkies - Xmas Wink

We had a spare TV, not kept in kids rooms but brought out for sleepovers for watching DVD's until DC1 was 13 and got her own TV.
She could only watch DVD's until she was 15ish.

DC2 is 14 and doesn't have a TV yet.

DC3 and 4 are only 8 and 6 and no plans for a TV yet

RedSkyLastNight · 21/12/2018 18:53

never.
We have a "no electronics in room" rule (not uncommon amongst parents I don't think). I don't want my child potentially sitting up all night watching tv.

RedSkyLastNight · 21/12/2018 18:54

Sorry should have said "no electronics in room at night"!

DianaXXX · 22/12/2018 01:02

Yet two of my closest friends one has a son 7 has tv abs the other 9 does too & they are his fiends so they been asking but it's completely unacceptable at that age.

Never. Not necessary for children to have a TV in their room.

lunar1 · 22/12/2018 02:15

No tv in any bedrooms in our house. I let mine watch a film together on the iPad on a Friday or Saturday night but there are no permanent screens in rooms, DH and I included.

imip · 22/12/2018 02:15

When they pay for one!

My eldest are 10 and 12. They don’t have phones but do have kindles. Helped by schools that don’t allow phones. Seeing the probs phones cause with friends dc, they prob won’t get one until they are 13.

We have a tv in our room and they can use that...

Toomanybaubles · 22/12/2018 03:29

No tv in bedrooms here either. There are TVs in two reception rooms, more than enough imo.

Starlight456 · 22/12/2018 03:37

My Ds (11) doesn’t have one . He has ADHD so risk of watching tv at bedtime to high. He would also watch Tv after lights out would be setting him up to sleep worse

Chottie · 22/12/2018 03:43

Never, they can have TVs in their rooms once they leave home....

MaverickSnoopy · 22/12/2018 03:53

I would say about 15 too. My 7yo's best friend has one and she's forever going on at me. I'm forever saying no. She does have a cd player though.

Godowneasy · 22/12/2018 04:22

Never.

Unless you don't want to see your children for the next ten years

CommanderDaisy · 22/12/2018 07:03

Never.
TVs and devices in rooms are bad for sleep.

It's excessive and unnecessary.
Bed rooms are for sleeping.
You can't monitor what they watch if they are locked up in the bedroom all the time.

somewhereovertherain · 22/12/2018 07:07

Can’t disagree with any of the above. Ours brought their own when old enough.

KittenEsque · 22/12/2018 07:09

12 or 13 at the youngest

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/12/2018 07:11

We had TVs put in all the bedrooms when we did up the house.

Dp watches a tv in the bedroom and the tv in the living room gets watched but dd and ds never turn theirs on
