8yo believes in Santa?

My just turned 9 year old, still believes in Santa Claus, I thought this was perfectly normal, until I was told she is ‘too old’ for all that! Am I being stupid, in think the spirit should carry on until the child is ready??💓

I believed until I was 11. Carry on with it, it’s lovely.

I pretended to still believe in Santa for a few years after I learned the truth. I suspect a lot of kids do. Where's the harm? Tell whoever is putting a downer on it to turn their frown upside down and stop being a grinch.

My 8 year old is desperate to believe so we just carry on with it. My 10 and 12 year old don’t believe but they just carry on with it and we never discuss it. We all enjoy the fun of the pretence and the ‘secret’. You don’t need to ‘break’ the magic just let it fade away!

My just turned 9 yo DS still believes I think
I may drop a few subtle hints in 2 years time, just so he's not going to secondary school still believing!

youlemming · 21/12/2018 22:17

My 8yr old DD does, she said the other day while watching the local rotary club tow santa down the road past the house "I know the tooth fairy isn't really but I'm sure santa is", so it's something she thinks about but really wants to still believe.
What's the harm, I think it's lovely as kids seem to be so much older in their thinking than when I was that age

Mumshappy · 21/12/2018 22:18

My dd8 still believes.

niclw · 21/12/2018 22:57

I think it's good for primary aged children to believe still. I'm a secondary teacher and remember my first form had reached year 11 (so 15 and 16 year olds) and we were doing an activity about how they felt when .... One of the cards said when I found out santa wasn't real. Two of the girls came over and told me that I needed to hide the card because their friend still believed and her mum had asked them to keep it to themselves. 15 is a little old but 8 definitely not x

8 and 9 is fine. DD2 was almost 11 last year and just started hedging her bets but DS2 who is almost 8 definitely believes.

There was a family at our school who didn't 'do' santa claus, which was their right of course, but their 10 year old daughter told another child (6 at the time) santa wasn't real and it really spoilt it for her.

chickhonhoneybabe · 21/12/2018 23:23

My 8 year old doesn’t believe, so I’ve told her that Santa 🎅🏼 won’t be coming this year then! 😂

DropZoneOne · 21/12/2018 23:29

My 10 year old DD doesn't believe in Santa, and this started last year really ... but she was utterly convinced that the Christmas Eve box was left by the elves! Don't think she's worked out the tooth fairy yet.

KisstheTeapot14 · 21/12/2018 23:39

DS aged almost 9 still believes. He said to me the other day 'we need to modify the chimney' (its a gas fire, so no hole for santa).

I said, don't worry, FC is magic, he will work it out.

What kind of magic?

Ooooh all kinds, I said.

C0untDucku1a · 21/12/2018 23:41

A year 7 (12 year old) was explaining to me how he knows santa is real last christmas. 9 is still young.

BackforGood · 22/12/2018 00:14

Well my 22 yr old still hangs his stocking out.......

Childrenofthesun · 22/12/2018 00:22

DD, nearly 9 - complete believer. Not even a hint of scepticism. She absolutely still believes in the tooth fairy too.
