Ok here’s the essay!Blush
So LO is 14 weeks old and born at 37 weeks via c section due to being 9lb 4..!
We’ve been through the mill with silent reflux which they said could be because her osophagos was under developed due to being born 37 weeks but we managed eventually to get under control with ranitidine and gaviscon..
Anyway to cut a long story short- started on Aptamil and all was good and then all of a sudden she started having foul
Thick loose nappies up to her neck after her jabs (which we was told to expect to last max a week)
As these nappies continued they told us to change formula brand. We’ve now moved to Mamia milk (aldi) and she now no longer needs medication for silent reflux! Hooray! However Not sure if it’s due to milk or that she’s generally outgrown the problem..but!! her nappies have turned foul! Green thick sludge like and the smell makes us all heave ! She seems to be bringing up part of feeds (posseting) and seems to have tummy ache.
Doc suggested lactose free milk but I’m so sceptical as I really don’t see these nappies are a lactose problem? Anybody else with this experience ? Should
We just change brand again? Or go for the lactose free ? When I’ve googled lactose intolerant in babies it says diorreah and sore nappy area and vomiting but she has none of this? I’m such an over thinker just want it to be right for her Sad

Lactose is rarely an issue in young babies - it sounds like a dairy protein intolerance. I would ask for dairy free milk.

Hope18 · 20/12/2018 07:30

Jackshouse thank you for replying!Smile I’ve never heard of a dairy protein intolerance.. does this milk have to be prescribed? Would this affect them when their older with weaning ?

Google CMP intolerance (cow's milk protein), we were prescribed a milk called Nutramigen for a while.

@puddock so I’ve just googled and she doesn’t have frequent loose nappies though? Nor does she have hives or skin irritations..?

I think the stools your describing are a common effect of it though. Not my experience my friends.

Hope18 · 20/12/2018 07:55

@Redken24 thanks for your reply.
So I guess now the debate is weather to go back to the doctor and question Cmp intolerance or weather to go with what they said in the first place and give lactose free a go for a week and see if it changes as I think they want to test/trial that first🙄 and then if that makes no difference at least I can push to go down the route of Cmp.

My son is 11 weeks and on lactose free milk due to vomitting and severse discomfort when feeding which seemed like a tummy ache. Since his jabs his nappies have also turned the way you are describing. The smell is almost acidic. I havent taken him back to the docs as i was hoping it would sort itself out and he is happy in himself, smiling away. This post has made me wonder though so i might give docs a call today. He used to have one poo a day now he has 2 or 3 and a very wattery one as well. No answers im affraid but lactose free milk worked and sorted the tummy issues and vomitting but he has developed these poo issues since jabs, not related to the milk so from my experience i wouldnt expect milk to solve the poo issues

@mumtoboy123
What milk does you lo have ? Is it shop brought or prescribed? Doctor won’t prescribe for my little girl so going to have to try shop brought first..
Debating between SMA LF or aptamil LF..
She’s never had SMA but she’s had aptamil before 🤔 all these decisions are so hard Sad

@hope18 he is prescribed similac. I litterally sat in the docs room and said "im not leaving until you give me something for this baby." I got lucky with a student doc who didnt put up much of a fight.
One thing i would say is the hypoalergenic formula such as similac is avaliable in pharmacys at about 15 pound a box. Box last around 2 days for us. We saw improvement overnight so maybe bite the bullet if you can afford it and go to them and say this has helped please prescribe.

Cmpi effects 1% of babies. Yes it will effect weaning but it very rarely lasts for life.

Children who have cmpi often show improvement on a lactose free diet.

HiPP Organic saved my sanity. My son was just like your LO and changing to HiPP just eliminated every single symptom! Best milk ever IMHO. His reflux and nappy problems became a thing of the past.
