7 month old back shuffling!

So I've been trying to encourage my daughter to crawl (I'm not in a rush, don't get me wrong) and instead she just flips onto her back and pushed herself around the room and then rolls back onto her front when she's reached the toy she was after! It's quite funny to watch but she's not even trying to crawl for this reason.

Has anyone else's child done this?

Not this. My DD NEVER crawled, never cruised round furniture. She started bum shuffling at 12-13 months then started walking at 22-23 month. She had a way that worked for her (even if she did destroy all her jeans/leggings/pants in the process) and looks like for the moment your DD does too 🙂

DS is 7.5 months and I can't even trust him to sit up in his own, when we put him on his tummy and ends up crying after a few mins. It's like he's regressed slightly in the last few weeks which I think can be part of a development leap. She'll get there eventually, maybe watch out for carpet burn on her head in the meantime Grin

Ds2 never crawled. He bum shuffled then walked at 17 months.

We have a little family member who does this. I've heard crawling is one of the least consistent milestones.

Her poor hair! Try not to worry too much. My BIL was bum shuffler, and my little boy has learnt to walk, without yet learning to stand up independently. Which means that as soon as he falls over / sits down, he has to crawl to the side of the room to pull back up. They get there! Maybe try tempting on to her tummy with well positioned toys, and making her move forward to reach them?

Thanks for the replies! I'm kinda relieved she's not crawling quickly around yet as I know she will be harder work once she can Grin it's so funny watching her other methods of getting around though! I have a video of her pushing herself forward at 10 weeks old as if she was trying to crawl so I kinda thought she'd be crawling as soon as she could but now she won't even entertain the idea!

@Smurfybubbles haha we have a nice soft rug so hopefully she won't get carpet burn Wink she's definitely gonna make it harder for her hair to grow back on the back of her head though! And that's interesting that it's the most inconsistent milestone!

@sar302 yep her poor hair indeed Sad it was so long on the back of her head when she was born! And now the top is growing really fast as she's balding on the back!!! She also makes this gargling noise like chewbacca whilst she's pushing herself back.. She looks possessed hahaha 😂

DD1 didn't move other than the occasional roll until about 10m then it was a backwards commando type thing I wouldn't even call a crawl as she didn't get onto her knees.
She then crawled at 11m and was walking just after turning 1.
DD2 did a weird 1 knee 1 foot shuffle around 10/11m but didn't walk until 16.
They all find their own and often unique ways to get about.
