10 week old lies awake over an hour before sleeping

Hi all,

advice much needed,

my 10 week old has always been a poor napper in the day, he is pretty good at night sleeps though.

i use to rock him to sleep, but he is getting heavy and this could sometimes take up to an hour, which I think re stimulated him.

last few days I have got him ready for day nap, after awake time, ( swaddle, dark room, dummy, cuddle and sway with lullaby) until he is drowsy in arms, 10 - 15 mins, lay him in his cot, and he will then wake and lie there eyes open for over an hour, not crying.

Firstly I don't like him being awake on his own (staring at the ceiling)

secondly I worry that he should be asleep so am I creating an over tired baby, as he needed to fall asleep when I first went to settle him.

yesterday he eventually fell asleep after an hour awake and then some grizzel cries,

today I picked him up after 30 mins and cuddled him to sleep in my arms as I didn't want to leave him awake.

What should I do? leave him lying there awake?

What's the problem with leaving him laying there awake? If he's happy and content leave him!
My dd is 7 months and sometimes it takes her half an hour/45 minutes to drop off she talks, plays with her hands, scratches the crib then goes to sleep.
I'll leave her when she wakes up too until she shouts for me.
The ceiling is a LOT more interesting at 10 weeks than it is to us. Use the hour to nap or put your feet up!

My daughters the same. If she’s happy / Just moaning I leave her. She’s 15 weeks. Sometimes I used to feel guilty and went To see to her and try rock her etc but it made it worse and she never settles that way! She’s currently scratching the side of the crib. Often sends her to sleep eventually! I figure if she needs me she’ll cry. If not she’s happy :)
