Separation anxiety - at night?

DD is 8 months and has started showing classic signs of separation anxiety. She will cry when left alone with someone she doesn't know well, or sometimes even when I pop out of the room and she's left alone. We are working on helping her overcome this. Any tips or experience welcome!

I don't know if this is related, but she's also started shrieking at bedtime and when she wakes up in the middle of the night. She used to have a little cry and then settle down again after a feed. But no more! Now she screams - feels like she's terrified of something but I could be projecting - and just cannot settle back down. We've resorted to all going to bed together really early, which is untenable in the long-term. Is this another manifestation of separation anxiety? What can I do to help her get over this?

My DD was really similar around the same age and would only settle with me or in our bed. I can't sleep with her next to me and I didn't want her getting in the habit of being in bed either.

So I wore an old T-shirt throughout the day and night so it was really smelly, then tied it around her cot bars.

That night she slept through and didn't wake up screaming. I left it there for a good month before taking it off.

Hope this helps. Xx
