What is the best age to start baby Sensory?
Do most babies enjoy this?

6 Months plus - it’s very lovely but also expensive and overwhelming so not worth the money for younger babies I think

Can't say for sure, but I started with my DS at almost 7 weeks. He doesn't smile much through it, but he's absolutly fascinated by everything thats going on, startes intensly at everything, especially the other babies, it's really sweet! Added benefit that he is completely tired out after it too, so I think he gets a lot out of it!

Polestar50 · 13/12/2018 01:49

I'd say around 3 months. I started when mine was about 6 weeks and it was far, far too early! He slept or fed through most of it each week and it feels a bit silly looking back now.
After around 3 months he was able to really engage and enjoy it.

I’d say 4 months plus. I started my DS at 10 weeks and it was too soon, but him and add were fascinated at 4 months.

We're booked in to start in January at about 5 weeks, mainly because my husband will be back at work then and there's not much choice in terms of baby groups where I am, but also because even if it doesn't look it from the outside, their brains undergo huge development in the first 3 months.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 13/12/2018 02:36

I would say from 3 months or once they are awake for longer periods. it’s a lovely class but quite pricey if the baby is just going to sleep throughout! We started at about 3 months it was perfect, I still see the lovely mums I met there 5 years later!

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 13/12/2018 12:28

I would say from 4/5 months is when they'd get the most benefit, it is pretty pointless for younger babies and it's not cheap.

FoxgloveStar · 13/12/2018 17:37

3-6 months is best. Before that they are just permafeeding and the class is pointless. After 6 months they just crawl off and you spend the entire time trying to get them to sit nicely against their will!

I didn’t really rate the classes much tbh.

With DD1 I started when she was about 6 weeks which was far too soon in hindsight. DD2 is only a couple weeks old but I’m not going to anything like that until she’s at least 3 months. I think I might find a class different from Baby Sensory this time.

Ooplesandbanoonoos · 13/12/2018 17:42

3-4 months. We went earlier and kept having to stop to feed!!
It's great though and naps are great after.
There are apps that tell you about local activites- one is called HOOP.

CmdrIvanova · 13/12/2018 17:43

I loved it. DD went until she was too old. 3 or 4 months is fine. Until then they're just an adorable bundle of milk and poo, once they hit 3 or 4 months they start paying a bit more attention to the world.

bourbonbiccy · 13/12/2018 21:12

I would say start as early as you are ready to be going out and about. They will still love all the lights I took my DS from about 6-8 weeks and it was lovely.

ElyElyOy · 13/12/2018 21:50

I’d probably look to do baby massage first and save sensory until baby is ready to start rolling and enjoying play mats etc.

Until then do sensory at home (battery fairy lights, foil emergency blankets, different textures/noises/smells etc). Even taking baby to the shops, park, play groups are sensory experiences: you don’t need to pay someone £5-£10 a class for it :)

HarrietM87 · 17/12/2018 18:47

I started at 5 months and that was great. Brilliant class and my favourite thing to do with him. I did baby massage at 2-3 months and that was good too.

Bibijayne · 17/12/2018 20:59

I started DS at 6 weeks. The first couple of weeks he tended to fall asleep mid-session, but had actively enjoyed it (and looking at the other babies!) Since 8 weeks.

Where we are they have a birth - 7 months, 7months to 13 months and birth to 13 month sessions. The really little ones session seems to have worked well for us :)
