Cot bumpers

Hi

I'm aware that cot bumpers aren't recommended, but is there an age that they're deemed safe?

My DD will be one just before Christmas and usually sleeps through. But recently she's started to roll around a lot and ends up lying horizontally and getting her legs stuck between the bars, then waking up crying in a panic.

Are cot bumpers a complete no no?

Not sure if it makes much difference but DD can't yet stand.

I got breathable mesh bumpers for mine.

We wedged a sheet under DD's mattress, over the side and into the drawers underneath her cot. She also turns horizontal and poked her feet through the side, then woke up crying.

Anyway, if it's not safe then so isn't the cot , as she's often lying against what should be her headboard. And that's not breathable.

I originally had mesh bumpers but I found that my son kept trying to climb up on the bumpers and they obviously couldn’t support his weight they would end up just being pushed down and he’d still be able to get his arms and legs through the bars. He also learnt how to undo the Velcro and take the bumpers off and so again we were back at square one. We also didn’t like the fact that without the bumpers he would frequently bang his head on the cot bars whilst asleep which would then wake him up.

In the end we just transferred him into a travel cot with a standard cot mattress on the base for comfort and it and it solved all the issues.

Thank you for your input. I'm still undecided about cot bumpers, so I'll probably leave getting one for the time being.

Hopefully she'll stop spinning round and getting her legs stuck between the bars! Lol!

I've got bumpers from ikea which have a base that the mattress sits in so no worry about baby getting stuck betwrrn bumpers and mattress etc

They are supposed to be removed before they get mobile. It's too late for one now

Had she never worn a sleeping bag? They can help stop legs getting trapped

She wears a gro bag every night, but still manages to get her legs caught in the bars. 🤦🏻‍♀️
