Long term sleep in travel cot

Hey guys,
If I buy a thick mattress could DS sleep in a travel cot long term til he is 2(when we will move?). Space at premium in our current house.

If so what websites will be best for buying a safe mattress? I have the joie commuter travel cot.

Thanks!

It depends how tall he's likely to be. I think it would get very cramped after 18months.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2018 23:43

Yes I'd put a proper mattress in and it would be OK. But a normal cot is the same size as a standard travel cot, so I'm not seeing that you'd save much space.

BertieBotts · 09/12/2018 23:49

Oh I see the Joie is actually smaller than a standard cot at 106cm x w 70.5cm. Hmm. A standard is 120x60cm, so this might be worth considering. I don't know where you'd get a mattress fitted to that nonstandard size, either.

I know my DS (50th centile height at this age) outgrew a standard cot when he was just two, it was starting to get cramped for him. So to take 15cm of length off that, I'd agree I think it will be uncomfortable much earlier.

Take a look at the Mokee mini cot bed- it’s 64 x 124 cm and smaller than our travel cot.

We have it in our tiny box room and it works really well.

MamaVV · 09/12/2018 23:56

Yes, it’s totally fine to use a travel cot as a regular co but you’ll probably find that it doesn’t last you quite as long as you are hoping. I’ve bought several mattresses from here and they do made to measure...

Our dd’s nursery was tiny so we used the Stokke Sleepi which was brilliant and smaller than regular cots. Second hand on eBay is a really good option too if new looks too expensive.

Why not just go for a standard ikea cot?

The hard thing about using travel cots is trying to lay a little baby down in them when you are almost bend double.

BertieBotts · 10/12/2018 01:09

Ikea ones are cotbed size now, but the really cheap one still comes in 120 x 60.

BertieBotts · 10/12/2018 01:12

What about a bedside cot? I've got this one. It's not the most roomy thing in the world but it is bigger (for the baby) than most yet small in size itself in comparison to actual cots. I'm hoping to use it until DS2 is about a year. But if he needed/wanted to stay in bed longer then I'd just carry on using it as a bed guard.

We had our DD in one for at least six months in DP's office whilst we changed rooms around, she was fine. I also recommend the babymattress online site.

My first son slept in a travel cot (a large-ish one) until he was almost 3. We listen used a normal cot mattress in.

My second son is 16 months and is still quite happy sleeping in the travel cot.

Do not buy from Mokee unless you want to risk having nowhere for your baby to sleep. Utterly disgusting attitude. The most stressful part of our pregnancy. Check out the one star reviews on trustpilot.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 23/03/2019 00:00

Wow pushandrun I understand that you probably found this thread in a google search but honestly. Buying something with poor service was most stressful part of your pregnancy? So many people here have lost or almost lost their babies during pregnancy.

Pushandrun · 23/03/2019 09:33

Yes @bunloafandcrumpets I am talking about OUR experience, not those that were not as lucky as us. You know nothing about it. We had a smooth pregnancy and relatively simple delivery. We used hypnobirthing and it worked. Sorry not to have a terrible story about our pregnancy ^^ Jeez. As I stated, running around like headless chickens trying to find something for our dd to sleep on when she came home after everything else had gone smoothly totally pricked the hypnobirthing bubble in the days leading up to the birth. Keep your comments to what you know. Or do you work for Mokee? Take alook at the reviews on trustpilot if my story isn't enough for you. Whilst you want to talk about some of the tragedies I want to warn other parents of the risk of dealing with Mokee. I am at peace with my actions. I suggest you buy a mirror and look at it

BunloafAndCrumpets · 23/03/2019 12:14

Goodness me. Yes I reacted emotionally to your statement. No I am absolutely not perfect.

I don't think I need to buy a mirror but thank you for the kind suggestion. I make sure to look out at the world around me and try to use perspective. I also try to listen to what people say to me and reflect on it. Sorry you had such an awful experience with your bed. I'm glad you are all well.
