Getting three year old ready

Ever since ds Age 3 has been tiny, he has always been arkward in the mornings.
Not a problem with a tiny one year old where the whinging and protesting can be ignored.
Now he’s three he wants to get ready himself and will resist my intervention, which I guess is good as he is learning, but oh my it’s a painful process.
He will drag out breakfast, and avoid brushing his teeth for as long as possible. Hates having his hair combed.
Will put own clothes and socks and shoes on, I’m happy to help but he won’t allow me to. But also drags this out as long as possible getting distracted in the mean time by toys/talking/a cat outside the window/anything else other than the task at hand.
It’s making for a stressful start to the day.
I feel like I am either shouting, bribing (get ready with no fuss and you can have xyz), or making threats (we will be late and miss the party/going to grannies/nursery).

I am heavily pregnant and will have a newborn very soon, please can anyone give me some tips on making this process less painful for all concerned.....

Teeth, hair and getting dressed all get done in the bathroom where there are no toys, no distractions

Have you tried a picture chart to tick off. We used clipart images to make a morning timetable with a reward at the end. Ds1 loved going through each item especially as he was (and still is) obsessed with the tv which was the final item! The teachers site twinkl might have some useful images but some if it is subscription however there are free picture symbols on the internet. We also bought the book ‘easier, happier, parenting ‘ it has loads of good advice.

I do getting dressed before breakfast as the possibility of missing breakfast was a good motivator. make sure if we do finish with time to spare I focus on dd and don't tidy something instead.
