My little boys goes to the local pre school and he'll then move into reception in September. He does 5 mornings a week (3 hours). The school said that they prefer the children to do this. However he's so tired plus his dad is off on a thurs so i was thinking we could ask to do jyst 4 days a week. Has anyone else done this? I know it's not mandatory and he doesnt have to go...

Lots of children do twice a week, or 3x or 4x.
Do what suits you best.

Is it a school-based Nursery class, or a separate preschool? I ask because you mention moving into Reception into September, which would suggest it’s affiliated with a school?

You’re correct, it’s not compulsory, but they could remove the place if you don’t ‘regularly attend’. I’ve taught nursery classes in schools and have always had the children on the register for 5 mornings/5 afternoons a week. However, the fact you say ‘prefer children to do this’ suggests they have given the impression that fewer sessions per week is possible?

If it’s an entirely separate preschool, I think they will be much more open to just 4 days a week - settings independent from a school can be much more flexible with their provision generally.

My son only does 2 days a week at pre school ( part of a private nursery). He will have enough years in school and he doesn't need to do more than 2 days at the moment.

Of course you can cut it back, 4 mornings sounds perfect.
