Reflux- help!

DS is now 9 weeks old. From about 3 weeks he has been vomiting after feeding. He’s breast fed with the occasional (maybe once a week bottle of formula). The vomiting seems to be completely random- some days it will happen after every feed, sometimes when I sit him on my lap to burp, or half an hour/hour later, sometimes it won’t happen for a whole week. When he’s sick it seems like he’s bringing up the entire feed, not just a bit of possetting.
I’ve tried cutting out dairy and I’m not sure if there is any correlation- some days I’ll have some butter or something and he’s fine but then other days he’s sick a lot, and vice versa- I’ll cut out dairy and he still vomits.
The other thing is that he has oral thrush and as soon as I put the dropper in his mouth he’ll gag and vomit up his feed 😫

Anyone have any tips? I’m getting him weighed tomorrow. I just feel sad that quite often he’s not keeping milk down and might be uncomfotabke - he makes up for it afterwards but also it’s so draining constantly being spewed on and having to change our clothes throughout the day!

Does he seem distressed when he vomits? Have you read this from Kellymom?

Have you seen a doctor about it? Hopefully they will prescribe some medication. My son has silent reflux and from week 2-7 it was absolute hell. Ranitidine has really helped settle him (touch wood)

My son had reflux. He was breastfed for the first 3 months, and then for another month or so for night feeds only. We used to go through so many muslin cloths, and I would drape myself with a towel at night!

We found that reflux formula worked (if it hadn't I would have taken him to the doctor). It needs a number 3 teat and is made with cooler water than regular formula or it doesn't mix properly. It also needs to be left for 7 minutes once made to thicken up.

Using it meant that there was more chance he was able to keep breast milk or ready made formula down if needed too.

If you don't want to go the formula root, if you, express you can get a thickener for your milk. Cow and gate carobel - it's the same thing they use in the reflux formula.

We kept him upright for 30 minutes after every feed. We had a timer!

I also fed him small amounts (maybe 3/4oz? I can't remember now!) every 2 hours. I went with the little and often approach until he settled down a bit and then eventually got into a every 3 hours pattern.

I think he stopped having reflux around 9 or 10 months. He is nearly 15 months now and it seems a lifetime ago. My life was ruled by timers back then! One for the formula, one for burping, one for feed times.

I hope this long ramble was a little helpful!
