14 month old not eating

My DS is 14, nearly 15, months old. He's been a bit off his food and changed his eating habits a lot since October (we went on holiday for 3 weeks, and then he had HFM) - eats what he used to hate, hates what he used to love. I thought fair enough, babies do that.

But the last couple of days he just really hasn't eaten anything, yesterday he had most of a weetabix, some raisins, a couple of crisps, and a few bits of fruit. He was offered a multitude of things, maybe too many but at this point I just keep trying things in the hope he will eat. He refused everything. He is still drinking whole milk when offered (mostly!).

He is dealing with the end of a cold and his molars are coming through - he was up nearly every hour last night which is very unlike him.

Does anyone have any advice? Or ideas of high calorie food that I can offer him?

Or should I just calm down and he'll eat when he wants to?

If it’s just a few days whilst he is teething and a bit unwell, then that’s perfectly normal. Would he eat some cool things like cucumber from the fridge or yoghurt maybe? They might sooth his sore gums a bit. If he is taking milk and the odd bits of things he won’t starve in a few days.

Since October he has greatly reduced how much he eats, but it's just the last couple of days where it seems to have dropped to nearly nothing. I assume/hope it is due to teething and therefore temporary!

He used to love yogurt but has started to refuse it recently. He has always refused cucumber and the like.

I normally only give him milk when he wakes up and before he goes to bed. I have started to offer him a small amount at dinner after he has refused all the food, do you think that will be ok?

In my experience with DS1 this is fairly common. A lot of babies will eat 'anything' up to the point they realise they can say no, plus as a stage of development they can become a bit phobic to new foods and averse to ones they liked before. Add in the fact that between 1-2 years their growth slows down massively, then illness/teething, they can stop or reduce eating for all sorts of reasons.

My DS1 was like this but never really came out of it and is really fussy now at age 3. DS2 has had phases of being 'off his food' but is generally pretty good now. He's 20 months.

It's all normal.

While he’s got a cold and teething you can’t really tell if this is anything to worry about or not tbh. I’d keep offering what he’ll have, including some milk, until the teeth are through and he’s well. If he still eats hardly anything at that point, then you might see your HV. But at the moment they will just say it’s teething.

Ok, thanks for the reassurance!

My husband, ever the hypochondriac, had started to get me panicked.
