Hi - I'm sure this has been a thread before but my 3 year old sone won't poo in the toilet. He waits until hos nappy is on at night or does it in the morning. Or he'll do it in his pants.

We've tried bribery - that worked for awhile. Star chart (in the shape of a toilet) made by my 7 year old son and promises of huge cars.

Nothing works - any tips please!

There was another thread just like this a day or two ago. Apparently they don't like the feeling of the poo falling away. It makes them feel as if they might fall too.

(Or perhaps he just doesn't like being high up on the loo. My 3yo still much prefers using the potty)

Even on the potty, some people recommend putting a nappy, or real nappy liner across the seat so that it is warm comfy and familiar for them to poo in. Then gradually lower the nappy with time as they get used to the idea.

I've been there with my dd. It became an issue to the point that she was holding it in and getting painfully constipated. after seeking advice on here, I backed off completely, gave her a nappy when she asked for it, made no comment about it and pretty much made it a non-issue. Within a few weeks she took herself off to the toilet and started doing it there of her own accord.

My ds was like this. I tried to force it (big mistake) He got vey constipated and upset. I went back to giving him a nappy when he asked for one -he would then go into a corner and poo. This went on til he was 4 and a bit and we were on holiday and he was having lots of fun in the pool. He need a poo - so I said OK, we can go all the way to our room and get you a nappy or you can go to the loo and I promise I'll hold you really tightly so you won't fall. He thought for a bit, chose the loo and never looked back. It'll come, it's not a battle worth having IMHO!

Would you be happy if he used a potty? My ds was the same for a while, then moved to weeing in the loo but pooing on the potty. Now poos in the loo but sometimes uses his potty (it's one of those potty chairs which I think is more comfortable for older chidren ie those who potty train after 3).

Notquitegrownup's post makes sense.
