DS HATES having his nappy changed :(

DS is 9 months old and nappy changing has become a loud process . He HATES being on his back and as soon as he is laid down will be on his tummy and then crawling off. Often I end up putting his nappy on holding him on my knee or holding him standing up and sometimes I'm amazed they don't fall down.

Last night he was in such a fury going to bed that it took DH and me ages to get him ready. Any tips on how to make this any easier? The thought of this much nappy changing hassle for the next 2 years or so is a bit offputting...

Does he fit into Pull ups yet? They made our life easier with DD - you can do it whilst they stand up!

What size do Pullups start at? DS is in size 4 nappies and weighs about 19lb or so. And are they more expensive than ordinary nappies?

I'm sure you've tried this but we distract DS with various objects whilst he's on his back, the most popular one this week is the kitchen roll tube. DS is like yours, rolls over and crawls away and unless we use something to keep him amused he would scream the place down!
We have to change the objects every couple of days as he gets bored of them but it does work.
Good luck.

Right, smelly baby calls for nappy change time....

Will try all the distraction I can think of!

Just realised baby is not only smelly but it has leaked.... Not the sort to change on my knee

I had this with DS1 and bought a changing mat with a harness, which worked really well. Later we gave him his bottle to distract him, and when he was old enough to have his pride hurt by nappies, gave him pullups at night.

DS2 is twice as strong and started running off much earlier, at 6 months. One time I just couldn't wrestle with him for long enough and he had to wait naked for dad to get home.Out came the mat again, but it is a nightmare without. It was from one of the standard catalogues, but can't remember which one. Good luck!

I used to get so stressed about about the bad nappy changing phase....keep in mind though, it is only a phase!

It seem like a phase, Ds got to escape for a couple of months but now the distraction techniques are working fine, as long as we change it fast!

Distraction works best for us - ds enjoys having his hair brushed, and will almost fall asleep if I brush his hair with a soft hairbrush. I also sometimes give him his dummy if it stops him crying. Easiest nappy changes are when dh is home (sadly only weekends) and one of us can distract while the other changes.
