Baby advice needed please - 6 months old

Hoping for some advice please

My DD is now 6 months old and isn't rolling at all. We do a lot of tummy time and she can hold herself up with her arms, but then gets frustrated and puts her head back down. She is, however, very good at standing and bouncing up and down when held.

Is this normal? Or should I consult a health visitor? As you can probably tell, she's my first, so I don't really know what I'm doing here Smile

Also, when should I start giving her purées etc? I'm getting pressure from MIL to give her solids just because she's 6 months old. She can sit up unaided for a bit but slumps over again. I read on the NHS website that she should be able to sit unaided before we introduce solids...

Sorry I can't give much advice as my boy is nearly 5 months and is my first
But they don't need to be able to sit unaided, they need to be able to sit while supported eg propped up with cushions, and have good head control.
I will be starting with purée as I want him to understand using a spoon as well as using his hands, especially after watching my 13 month old niece tip a bowl of stew upside down in her high chair as she doesn't understand what a spoon is for! X

Oh and my niece also hated tummy time and never crawled, just sits up and since 12 months now bum shuffled to where she needs to be. Babies do things when they are ready :) x

If she is 6 months old then you should start weaning. You can doing purées and finger foods or just finger foods. We did blw, so just finger foods and DD could use a spoon independently by 11 months.

If you are breast feeding then you also need to start giving multi vitamins.

There some good videos about babies rolling on YouTube if you want to try something different. There was an interesting one where you put a toy at an angle which makes babies look to the side, then their head tilts, then they tilt, then they sort of fall / roll a few times and then get used to it.

That being said, to me it seems like they have a button in their brain that just switches on, and then they're like "right! I'm going to do this now!" And they just do it. I'm not sure how much my "encouragement" helps - he seems to do things in his own damn time!

That being said, if you do ever have any concerns, always chat with a health visitor.x

My first DS1 at 6 months could roll, crawl, sit up, bloody back flip if he wanted to!
DS2 is now nearly 7 months. Screams the house down when I do tummy time, doesn't want to roll, can sit in his high chair but quite wobbly..but he is absolutely perfect..
All babies are different, your baby will be excelling in different areas..they can't all be good at everything..
No need to worry at all xx
