3 year old feeling sick after full fat milk

Hi all,
My daughter is just over three and still has milk in the morning and just before bed. She has recently (in the last few months) started to complain of feeling sick (and sometimes/rarely is sick). I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? I'm not sure if it's just in her head..

Also, should I still be giving her full fat milk or could that be the problem? Can I swap her to semi skimmed and would that help do you think or does she still need all the goodness from the full fat milk?

Many thanks x

Semi skimmed is ok from age 2 so you could try it. How close to bedtime is she having it? Maybe have it earlier in the evening and see if it helps

She could be lactose intolerant, in which case semi-skimmed would be worse. Does it seem to make her bloated and gassy?

I'm sure she would know by now if she was lactose intolerant as all milk contains lactose including breastmilk and formula. It could be that she is drinking too much too quickly or too soon before bed. You could offer less milk, change to semi skimmed and give it earlier

Thank you. She doesn't have a milk intolerance so it's not that. She did suffer from reflux badly as a baby so might be linked to that but I think if semi skimmed is basically as good as full fat that might be worth a go! Smile

That's about the age that lactose intolerance develops, very very few babies have it (cmpa is more common in babies), but it becomes more common as children get older. I'm not saying it is that but don't rule it out because it hasn't previously been a problem.

Could you maybe give more dairy with meals and drop one of the lots of milk (replacing with water/juice) and see if she feels better? I don't think it's likely to be in her head, although you know her best.

Maybe at 3 she doesn't need milk at bedtime and first thing? Maybe she's overfull?

I would drop the bedtime and morning milk and just offer her a cup along with her breakfast and/or tea. If she's eating a reasonably balanced diet she doesn't especially need to be given milk twice a day too.

My DD has never had a drink of milk since she stopped breastfeeding at age 2. She just doesn't like or want it.

My DS had a small cup of milk along with this bedtime story until he was about 2 and a half, since then only the very occasional glass of milk/babyccino if he asked for it.

Haha try telling her that! 😂
