Best clothes for nursery?

DS will be starting nursery at 15mo in April. I know it’s a while away! But I’d like to stock up in the sales...

What clothing is best for nursery?

At the moment he lives in short-sleeved, short-legged grows, with shorts/trousers over the top when we go out (we’re living abroad and it’s summer here, but we will be back in the U.K. in March). Will it be better by that age for him to be in separates? Won’t they ride up/down? What’s easiest for him/the staff? Any tips?

I tend to put my ds (19 months) in separates now. Comfy but warm cotton tracksuit pants, vest, long sleeved t-shirt with a hoody or jumper in case it's cold. Basically layers so they can add or take away. Plus another version in his bag with a couple of spare vests and a short or long sleeved t-shirt. Nothing expensive or that you would care if it was ruined! Smile

I would add shorts if the weather was warm too!

My twins started nursery at 15 months. Everything they wear is second hand as they come back with paint on and filthy! (Which I am absolutely delighted with)
Mine are currently going in with leggings/long sleeved top with a cardy for my daughter then trousers/long sleeved top/jumper for my son. I bought some rompers in the sale for next summer.

For under 2 we have used:
Vest with poppers at the bottom (short sleeve or long sleeve depending on weather)
T-shirt (again, short or long sleeve depending on weather)
Trousers (shorts in summer)
Socks
This works because then if the t-shirt rides up the vest stays put.
Plus spare set of all of that in their bag.

You will also need:

  • shoes - even if they can't walk yet they will want to take them outside, we have never sent them in their "proper" shoes (Clarks etc.), always a cheaper alternative
  • coat - all in one waterproof is the best
  • hoodie/cardigan - we kept one in the bag in case it was unusually cold
  • small backpack bag for spare clothes!

All of this can be purchased CHEAPLY in supermarkets or shops like Primark or picked up in charity shops or on eBay in bundles. They will ruin a LOT of clothing in the process of having fun :)

Fantastic, thanks so much everyone! I’ll make a list... I love lists 😂
