Poorly 10mo...

We've come away for DHS Birthday in the Lakes.
Poor 10 mo DS has literally got THE WORST cold from no where.
Cue constant crying, no sleep etc.

He's never been this poorly before and I feel so helpless, going home today thank god.

He's breastfed to sleep but due to total congestion we're having to rock him every few hours.

Any wise words or would just appreciate a hand hold.

Ahh no, sounds rubbish! DD (18 months) has just got over a really awful one.

Things that really have helped us through her many colds:

Before bed (DD has a dummy so same need to suck!) I’d give scaling nose drops, then bath in a steamy room. After bath use snot sucker to really try and get it all out. DD has always hated it but she’s much more comfortable after.

Then vicks / snuffle babe on her chest, back and feet, with socks on.

We have a vicks vapouriser that you put menthol pads in. It’s big and you have to fill it with water, but it keeps the room steamy all night.

Be ready to give calpol / ibuprofen if has seemed grumpy / grizzly during day. They can’t tell us if they have a sore throat / headache etc which is quite common with a cold, so I give it at the first sign of discomfort.

Wishing DS a speedy recovery!

Scaling should read saline!

Thanks so much @Sipperskipper really useful hints!!!

I'm going to try and get him seen at the docs today just to make sure it's nothing more sinister.

Ah the snot sucker My old friend... he hasn't let me use it since he was tiny but I'll give it another whirl x

Run the shower with the door and windows closed to make it really steamy. Stay in for as long as you can. You will need to change him after as clothes will be damp. Try morning and before bed.

A squirt of breast milk up the nose while feeding, helps them snuffle it out... calpol, lots of cuddles...
