Babyproofing - fire doors

LO is close to crawling and our lazy asses have finally got up and childproofed everything - only thing we can't figure out is the doors in our flat. They are big heavy fire doors that swing shut very loudly and are propped open by rubber door wedges at the moment however even a small nudge can sometimes move the wedges out of place (biggest size they have as there is a small gap from the bottom of the door to the floor) causing them to slam shut which would definitely be a trip to the ER for a check for internal organ damage if baby was caught in it. Considering changing the latches on doors so they dont swing shut or a door hook at the base or try to find some very heavy door stoppers again (have tried the largest Dunelm ones previously but aren't heavy enough so have to use wedges except kitchen door where we use 2 large mason jars full of coppers) but open to other ideas.

When my two were toddlers, we lived on a new build estate and we all had fire doors with chains next to the hinges. To make them shut. We tried all sorts. Heavy door shops, wedges. We removed the chains in the end after Our neighbours dc almost lost a finger. It isn't the law now that they have to be self closing.

My parents have big things a bit like curtain tie backs that loop round the handles. They stop the doors from slamming shut so fingers can’t be trapped in. They do still close with force though so might not be quite what you need. You can also buy things that look a bit like foam pool noodles that do the same job.

We put finger guards on our doors after ds3 nearly list the tip off his finger in the hinge side - very traumatic trip to a&e. We had already removed the automatic closing chains and dh also made a hook at the top to keep the door open. We were fairly paranoid about doors after that!!!

Foam door guards lil e this may help. Out the on high enough and it'll stop the door closing entirely. A cut pool noodle will do the job too.

They’re exactly the ones we have (the foam ones) and they completely do the job
