Vintage playpen - safe to use?

Anyone have experience of using vintage playpen or similar for their baby? I have an opportunity to get a nice wooden one from the 1960s, but wonder if it’s safe to use.

Check the gap between the bars and compare it to current legislation.

It's imperative that the child won't be able to fit either their head or torso through the bars (DD was a very skinny baby and could fit her body under the lowest horizontal bar of the bannister rail which I discovered when I found her legs and tummy dangling over the edge Shock) which obviously could have had tragic consequences if left for a few minutes.

Has it been painted?

It’s unpainted wood. The space between bars looks fine, though I’ll check! More worried about fixtures- metal bits holding the wood together. Could they contain lead/asbestos or anything else that won’t do today?

Thanks for the link. Indeed, it has hinges in the middle of the panels, so doesn’t comply with modern legislation. Oh, well...

If it has sentimental attachment google uses for old cot beds / play pens etc and you might be able to use it for something else.
