as an english teacher and student of Spanish, I think you should sign up for the classs anyway as the motivation/fun factor of being in a group is really important.

But maybe get a home tutor as well. Cost depends on whether you get an official one or a student getting a bit of cash in hand work. There are agencies - try looking up home tuition/education in the yellow pages.

Galaxy, you could try and get a french student to do home tuition in exchange for something else, instead of cash? (...I mean something legal obviusly...) Do you have universities nearby? You could advertise there. Also find out whether there are French Clubs ( Le Club Francais) in your local schools, as they should be able to find you a tutor, or fit you in adult classes, if they have them.
Bonne chance

Hi Galaxy

which part of France might you be moving to??

I also had a quick read of your work situation thread. i don't have any words of advice but you have my sympathies. its a horrible situation to be in.

I'm relocating to Paris in a couple of months and more than happy to share information.

best wishes

We've just come back from the Auvergne for our hols. We have a couple of friends there and its a lovely part of France. I love the lifestyle and countryside.

I've got a couple of booklets about moving to France from relocation companies. You are more than welcome to have them as they don't contain much info about Paris.

Another thing: when I was looking for Spanish lessons, I found the cheapest ones were at the local "Friends Centre" (the Quakers meeting house) - is there one of those in your area?

No problems, just post again if you have problems getting through via CAT.

when might you be moving??? and would it be really rude to ask why ??? (you don't have to answer)

Galaxy - you could also just put French radio on in the background while you are at home/in the car, it's amazing how much you pick up without realising it (particularly if you do so from now until your move). Also, make sure you watch all the French films that are on tv (video them and watch them twice (even though often they are a bit boring) that way the first time you'll look at the subtitles and the second time you'll look a lot less) - again, something that's not much effort but with fine results!

Bonne chance!
