Children playing downstairs alone?

Just wondered if anyone at the weekends has a lie in and let the children play downstairs alone.

My two are 5 and 4 and wake up early at the weekends and go straight downstairs to play.

Would you allow your children at that age to do this.

I worry me and DH will fall back to sleep again.

They are both quite sensible and have never touched the cooker etc but wondered if anyone else does this and is it acceptable?

Mandarin for children is very fashionable right now. Apparently.

In which case, I've never been so pleased to be working class

Ds was doing this from about 2. He could put the video on himslef.

In fact, from the age of 3.5 ds' bedroom was on a different floor from ours and he also had to come downstairs when he got up (our bedroom is on the "living" floor") He'd come in to say "hello", have a wee cuddle and then wander off to watch a video while dh and I stayed in bed (this was c.6 am I hasten to add). He was "stair trained" from an early age

NSPCC guidance - just posted out of academic interest - perhaps I should be busier finding my children a class in mandarin

But why do they have to go to classes?

They're small, round, orange and very easily peeled. Totally unnecessary imo.

Clementine classes, now, that would be useful. Difficult little buggers, clementines.

Desi, you've missed the point old love, it's not a class in how to eat your fruit, though actually mine could do with that, now I come to mention it. It's a class in the language.

Here is what looks to be a reasonable class - though there are lots of others obviously

Book now to avoid disappointment. I fear the OP's children will be a little disadvantaged. At 4 and 5 they would be starting a little late.

DD (5) gets up at about 6am every morning (her bedroom is on the floor below us) she then goes down to the kitchn pours herself some juice and grabs some fruit, then goes downstairs to the playroom until we get up at 7.30am, so she is 3 floors away from us. Thank god she is trustworthy as we don't even hear her. DS on the other hand can't be trusted at all I am dreading when he comes out of a cot.

I er think Desi was making a joke, Quattrocentro. Even us Omega Mums occasionally venture into sense of humour territory.

I think Desi was quite right. Clementines are unruly and will have asbos slapped on them if they're not managed properly.

Joke? It's no joking matter, putting your children at a competitive disadvantage by failing to teach them mandarin from the age of 3.

I wouldn't leave children this age alone but then I was traumatised in my pre-baby days by a couple whose 4yo twins got up one Sunday morning and managed to paint the entire lounge, carpet, furniture and all, with paint intended for redecorating. They certainly had their redecorations!!

By the way, what on earth is kumon? Oh maybe I should google and find out.

And I'm disappointed to find that chn in London are learning Mandarin. I thought you meant that they are named Mandarin!

I don't either, Quattro. It sounds like it ought to be on that bum thread ..
