Really chapped lips on toddler

My daughter has just started to get chapped lips, which I think is from the cold weather. This is making her feel really unwell. She's also struggling to eat which is down to her lips being so sore. I've been putting Vaseline on them which is not an easy task! Can anyone else give any advice on what I should do? It's horrible seeing her struggle to eat and be unhappy.

Id put something more moisturising on like E45 cream or even some sudocrem. And put in on overnight and at naps.

I use Carmex or Blistex on my kids lips. You can get a strawberry Carmex which is the kids tolerate better than the original ones. I put it on when they're asleep!

Blistex is excellent Wink

I found vaseline dries lips out over time Sad

I use Lansinoh on dc lips when they get very dry. It’s quite think so you’re prob best doing it when they’re asleep. It’s magic stuff though.

Make sure she is drinking enough, I suffer from an illness which dehydrates me and one of my first symptoms is dry cracked lips.

Plenty of moisturiser when sleeping in case she is mouth breathing during the night. If you're struggling to put it on while she's asleep then put it on once she's asleep.

Sweet foods may be easier for her to eat instead of savoury. I know it's not ideal but it may get something down her until she's healed.

Lansinoh is the best lip balm I've ever used too. Bit sticky, and not cheap, but works very fast and a tube lasts forever. I've used it in DS2, who is prone to chapped lips, since he was tiny. Worked well for him too.

MrsMattWillis · 22/11/2018 14:21

Vaseline will make them worse . Lansinoh lanolin is amazing on lips but if you can't get hold of that today sudocrem will be better than Vaseline

When my sons got like this and he kept rubbing off lip balms, which weren't helping anyway, a nurse gave me a prescription for very mild hydrocortisone ointment. Solved it in a couple of days.

Chapped lips is a sign of dehydration as well as a reaction to cold. Is she a good drinker?

BottomleyPottsSpots2 · 22/11/2018 14:25

Lansinoh. It works miracles, literally overnight.

Lollyice · 22/11/2018 14:29

Blistex relief cream is brilliant. It's a bit sticky so doesn't wipe off. It's works really quickly.

Gonzales27 · 22/11/2018 14:43

Definitely Lansinoh!!! It's the only thing that worked with my DS.

blueberry71 · 22/11/2018 15:44

Thanks for the advice. I'll put it on my shopping list but I have some sudacrem at home so I'll use that from now on. She's a good drinker usually. I do think it's from the sudden change in weather, as it's gone from very mild to freezing. Plus she's outside a lot with me walking the dog. Hopefully they'll start to get better shortly.

I bought some little sachets if it and they’ve lasted years. Like these.

Gilbert82 · 22/11/2018 17:12

My little ones lips cracked and bled last winter, lansinoh worked wonders! I put it on once asleep so there was no fuss or licking it off!

blueberry71 · 22/11/2018 17:50

Thanks I'll get some lanisoh tomorrow then. I'll try anything to get her lips better. All this has made getting her to eat harder than usual. And she's not a great eater anyway!!
