Consequences

What consequence would you give to a 7 year old child who ripped a school reading book. The book was already ripped a little bit on the spine and while ds was reluctantly reading it to me in the car I heard it ripping more - only a couple of mm more but it was deliberate. After being told off for that and finishing reading the book he threw it on the car floor. Just wondering what consequence other people would have given?

Either leaving them with the embarrassment of having to explain to the teacher that they ripped it or use their pocket money to replace it

Thanks it doesn’t need replacing (as it is only couple of millimetres of ripped spine) but, yes that’s what I said that he had to explain what he did to the teacher and apologise. Wasn’t sure if this was shaming him too much - he’s a young 7 and v v well behaved at school so this will be very difficult for him!

If he’s ultimately well behaved then explaining what he did should be plenty
