Keeping a 1 year old warm outside

Feel a bit stupid writing this 😂

How do you all keep your non-walking toddlers warm when outside in this chillier weather?
DS is 1, takes a few steps but isn’t independently walking yet so doesn’t wear shoes (he pulls off his socks and any little soft soles shoes I’ve put him in!)
I always try to layer him up and he has a lovely warm coat, but he always seems to be cold to touch. Especially his hands, legs and feet.

We went for a walk in the park last Sunday (approx 1 hour) and by the time we got home he was freezing! Even though he had 3 layers (including coat) on and mittens, majority of the time DH and I took it in turns to hold him and put his hood up (refuses to wear a hat 🙄)

Any obvious tips for a clueless first time mummy?! Or is he too little to be spending much time outside in the colder weather?

So is he in a buggy?

If so you need a cosy toes.
Also a snowsuit could be useful. Of waterproof trousers give a good windproof extra layer.

Do you put a blanket or foot muff on him in the pram? He needs a hat too, but I know how hard it is when they pull them off.
I used to give DS2 a cup of warm milk at that age when we went out. It kept his hands warm and I think it warmed him up too.

NC4Now ooh good idea about the warm drink! DS is still breastfed and can’t have cows milk (cmpa) but loves warm juice so will definitely give that a go!

We do have a foot muff for the pram but don’t really put him in it much since he started taking steps as he hates being confined in it 🙄 especially when we go to the park and it’s time to leave haha

Thank you for the snowsuit suggestions will definitely be investing in one I think! X

Your baby needs a warm hug Wink Don't expose him too much in a cold temp. he might catch colds. If you expose him only in a short period of time.

Hi. Have you tried tights under trousers? No chance of pulling socks off! Then add another air of socks?

Also you can’t technically catch a cold from being in the cold. Colds are caused by viruses and you’d need the virus to get the cold. Which would be exposure to the virus. Not the cold. If you see what I mean.

@firsttime we got some cosy booties made from alpaca wool and then got some waterproof cover shoes from Amazon. This meant we could let DD down for a wander so she wasn't too bored. Babies (or anyone for that matter) don't catch colds from being cold, they're viruses and actually spread easier when inside in the warmth! I personally prefer to have DD outside as much as possible, so have invested in some really good outdoor clothing for that purpose, but I agree there's a real lack of footwear for winter for new toddlers!

Last year I had a sleeping bag type attachment on the buggy - like a cosy toes but it zipped all the way up to my daughters chest! It was only £20 off eBay and was very cosy and warm.
