Losing the dummy

My daughter is 21 months and still has a dummy but we try to restrict it to sleep times and have done since she turned one. We visited a dentist when she was about 16 months and he said he could already see the impact it has had on her teeth Sad so I tried to get her off it but I didn’t have any support off my partner, he said he couldn’t listen to her so upset at bedtime because she wanted the dummy so he went outside and sat in the car Angry

I am now so determined to take it from her as I don’t want her to have it still when she’s two. Now is a good time for us as I would like it gone before Christmas because I’ll be using my fortnight off work to attempt to potty train.

Has anyone used the method where you snip the end off the dummy and tell the child it’s broken? Or has any other methods? I know it’s often easiest to go cold turkey, does anyone have any positive stories to share? I’ve got a feeling it will be me going it alone in this as my partner has no willpower and will create any excuse to give in to her and stop her crying Blush and also my daughter’s 2.5yo cousin who she sees regularly still has a dummy so I could do with a way of completely putting her off them so she doesn’t get one off anyone else!

Any help is much appreciated!!! And please don’t Mum shame me as I have been absolutely mortified about her having a dummy since she turned one as I know the negatives of extended prolonged dummy use! Although I appreciate some children do have them longer than others.

No experience my self at that age myself, but I know my DB gave his to the baby reindeer at around that age, made it a nice event. left with the cookies on Xmas eve.
When ever he asked about it DM reminded him and he quickly forgot

Is there anyway you can get your DP on board?
We went cold turkey but DD was under one, I imagine it's much harder x

Ignore the extra myself Hmm been a long day!
Also please don't feel judged, the world would be a very boring world if we all did everything the same x

I got her a book for her 3rd birthday. Bea and the dummy fairy I think.

Read it for a few days then just did it with a nice present.
I could have tried earlier but she was just such a bad sleeper I needed all the help possible.

Don't beat yourself up about it.

The putting a hole in the dummy might work. With the milk bottles I made the hole in the teat slightly bigger every night and after a few days she lost the desire to have a bottle.

We did the dummy fairy. Collected them up because she needs to give them to babies for Christmas and she left a present! No looking back, it worked a treat!
