What has happened to my lovely 15 month old

DS has always been a happy and contented baby. People have often commented on how placid he is, asked me whether he ever cries etc. Always slept reasonably well except for 4 month sleep regression. Fussy eater but we manage and were slowly making progress. Happy to play and entertain himself, loved toddler groups etc.

The last week he has been a nightmare. Crying and whingeing all the time, can't be distracted by me playing with him, reading to him, groups etc. Screaming and crying at night whilst still asleep. Won't nap without crying and falling asleep through exhaustion. Won't eat anything other than porridge and yogurt.

Is this just normal toddler behaviour or can I help him? He does have teeth coming up at the back but they've broken the gum and teeth have never bothered him much really, certainly never to this extent. Don't know what to do and a week of crying and whinging is starting to get me down a bit.

Don’t have any advice but I feel your pain :( my almost 12 week daughter is always ridiculously smiley to the point we get comments wherever we go as she loves smiling at strangers she’s so happy! Super placid etc...but the past week she’s been awful. Grumpy, stone faced, wants up then wants down then wants neither..I’ve put it down to teething but who knows...?! Hopefully they’ll get back to their normal selves soon. I’m sure it won’t last forever!

Have you tried Nurofen and see if it makes a difference? Then you can know if it's pain or not.

Wonder week? I know this gets a mixed review but I definitely know when my toddler was going through a clingy grumpy stage the app showed he was going through a stormy phase; he generally then jumped forward with some development skills. This too shall pass as they say; teething as well won’t be helping. I’d definuteky try teething gel; painkillers and importantly wine for you.

My generally very easy going, happy baby has just had a rotten time with teeth. Not when they first broke through but afterwards as they grew, so don't discount teeth entirely. They do also get upset during developmental leaps. I'd probably give some paracetamol and anbesol to see if that helps and then shower him with cuddles and try not to plan too much for the next two or three weeks to give him plenty of time, space and stability.

Thanks all, sorry to hear you're having a tough time too some of you but glad I'm not alone!

@Brenna24 you might be right about the teeth, my husband thinks that's what it is. We've given neurofen but was planning to get some anbesol this morning to see if that helps him.

It is normal for a baby behaving like that when he/she is in the stage of having a teeth.

Mynameisnotthis · 20/11/2018 09:06

Could be the teeth OP. I was thinking maybe ears as I was reading your OP though. Does he seem especially bad when lying down at all? How’s his temp? My DD has had ear infections previously with no obvious signs apart from grumpiness until the drum burst
