Rate of pay for a before/after-school babysitter?

How much would be reasonable to pay a student to help get 2 primary school age kids ready in the morning, walk them to school, then pick them up, bring them home and help with homework? So around 4 hours a day, 5 days a week?

Min wage and as you’re their employer you’ll need to pay tax for them too

Thanks Fabaunt.

It's my DD who is being offered this job. She needs to find out whether it's declared or cash-in-hand first clearly!

How old is she? We pay our babysitter £8 an hour, but she's an adult with a DBS check, qualifications, first aid, the works. If she's young, I suspect something along the lines of the national minimum wage would be suggested, which is £4.20 an hour. That's probably also similar to what most childminders would charge for wraparound care in some places.

Make sure she's treated fairly and check on the legalities of this.

She's 19, no specific first aid/childcare qualifications. The family originally advertised for an au pair but DD can fit it around her studies and wouldn't need to live in.

I'll find out exactly what she is being offered.
