Baby girl dresses with matching knickers

About to have dd1 and it just occurred to me that I have no idea what to do about matching knickers and tights. Do you just forgo the knickers when using tights? It's going to be too cold to go without tights for a while.

I don't have a girl but I would imagine you would just put tights on as she'll be wearing a nappy

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/11/2018 09:05

Those matching knickers with the dresses serve no practical purpose don’t worry about using them or not

NannyR · 17/11/2018 09:08

I'd just put tights on, the frilly knickers are just to cover up the nappy when they are wearing a "nice" dress, the tights will cover up the nappy so no need for the pants.

When in nappies, DD wore knickers to cover the nappy only. If she was wearing tights, leggings, trousers etc then no knickers.

bookmum08 · 17/11/2018 09:14

I would put the frilly knickers over the tights. They are essentially pointless and decoration but they do look cute.

Nothisispatrick · 17/11/2018 09:16

DD doesn’t have any tights. I find tights massively uncomfortable
so I don’t want to put them on her.

Gileswithachainsaw · 17/11/2018 09:18

Tights and knickers are just a fiddly pain on the arse.

Go with leggings. Much softer. Less fiddly.

The vest goes over the nappy anyway you don't need an extra layer.

randomsabreuse · 17/11/2018 09:20

My babies wear tights because no socks gets cold in winter, and sock ons delay he disappearance about 30 seconds.

At now 3 DD still demands tights under trousers...

I find tights uncomfortable myself but practicalities win

NonaGrey · 17/11/2018 09:23

The knickers are just to cover up the nappy. If she’s wearing tights you don’t need them.

An extra layer when doing changes is never a good thing!

OhFlipMama · 17/11/2018 09:24

I prefer knickers/nappy covers to seeing a full nappy hanging under a dress.

NerrSnerr · 17/11/2018 09:27

I never bothered with the knickers. She either wore tights or a vest/ bodysuit done up over the nappy. when she was a toddler and still in nappies she was walking so didn't show off her nappy (too much).

To be fair i don't think any of the dresses we bought came with frilly knickers anyway.

Right tights and no knickers, fab. Maybe knickers in the summer.

Planning on leggings most of the time like ds but she has already been bought several dresses so will try and use them.

That's where you put on. Take a photo post on face book. Then go back to having baby kock about in a vest or baby grow.Grin

Knickers serve a purpose if you have a bum shuffler on rough floors / outside and use disposable nappies - otherwise they’re just decoration.

CJ1990 · 17/11/2018 13:20

Agree with @Gileswithachainsaw - pretty much just done that today! 😂I feel dresses and tights etc look really uncomfortable for a little baby. 🤷🏼‍♀️Our daughter is 11 weeks and I’ve only put her in a dress today to go out in! Swiftly came off when we were home into a comfy baby as said, way easier to change too..!

CJ1990 · 17/11/2018 13:21

*comfy baby gro

TheSmallAssassin · 17/11/2018 13:29

Just put your baby in babygros when they are tiny, dresses and tights (and matching knickers!) just too much of a faff, let your daughter just be comfy. Please don't feel she has to wear dresses just because she's been bought them, she has the rest of her life to wear less comfy or practical clothes so she can look pretty for other people's pleasure, hold off as long as possible!

chloechloe · 17/11/2018 15:04

When pregnant with DD1 I bought quite a few cute dresses then soon realised what a stupid idea they are. They look so uncomfortable wearing them as they’re lying down most of the time. And when you pick them up to carry them or wind them everything just bunches up.

NanooCov · 17/11/2018 19:57

I have no idea as I have boys but for those saying they find adults uncomfortable, can I recommend Snag tights? Google and they should come up. They're amazing. Come in a range of colours and they are designed to fit a variety of body shapes (there's a sizing table to help you choose your size). I struggle with tights as I'm medium height but on the fat side and to get them large enough to not cut my fat tummy in half they end up massively long. I'm a convert to the Snag ones.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/11/2018 20:59

Half the dresses we bought/ were given for DD were never worn or worn once for like 10mins- nothing more annoying than trying to breastfeed a newborn beneath a load of ruffles

peachgreen · 17/11/2018 21:18

If I could go back I'd dress DD in nothing but babygros for at least the first three months. Dresses are a pain for them, especially once they start crawling - dungarees and leggings much more practical.

Smile19 · 17/11/2018 21:27

The tights my LO wears are super soft or leggings. Also Frugi dresses / dungs are fab as they are so soft :)

anniehm · 17/11/2018 21:51

Handy on summer dresses, in winter just use tights and most people use bodysuits here anyway
