1 month old breathing

I'm so new to the baby game - I knew naff all about babies when my dd came along, I've never been around children and I don't know many people who have had babies recently to ask - so I appreciate I may come across as an over panicky mum! But I'm getting concerned (or weirded out) about my 1 month old dd's breathing and the noises she's making. She's a terrible sleeper anyway and even when she naps she's murmuring but some of the noises she's making sound demonic. She grunts and squeaks like shes possessed and it sounds like shes in pain (I don't think she is although she does writhe about) and she ends up waking herself up and then cries until I soothe her. She also breathes really fast. I know it's normal for babies to breathe fast for intervals but sometimes she's constantly breathing fast for over an hour. She pants a lot too, when I'm trying to feed her she's like a maniac gasping and panting like a dog and even when she finally latches on (breast and bottle) it takes ages for her breathing to calm down. Is this normal? As I said she doesn't look to be in pain. Before I was discharged from the midwives two weeks ago I mentioned it to MV but she was pretty dismissive and said she seemed fine (she wasn't doing it then typically!)

I know dd is still so young and it's a scary time for new mums but I'd hate to miss anything that could be an issue but at the same time I don't want to be wasting a docs time for overreacting.

I would definitely get her seen by your gp. Fast breathing can be a symptom of other problems, especially at this time of year.
Is her temperature normal?
Is she a good pink colour or is there any pallor or blue around her mouth?
She is very young so don't take any chances.
You can video her breathing/ grunting and show the gp.

My sons respiratory rate was fast at birth and it was apparently a sign of a respiratory infection.

In plain English he was breathing fast because he had an infection in his chest/lungs. I wish they'd just say that.

Take your baby to the go to rule things out.
The writhing might be trapped wind or reflux though.
