I am a new mum and have twins, now 11 months. I now feel that I can take them to the play group by myself without help from family/friends. I took them to a local play group yesterday. My babies have strong personalities and react when someone takes their toys etc. but at the play group they did not really react much - maybe they were taking in all the events of their surroundings. However there were some toddlers that came up to them and just took their toys. What should I do about it? Normally if one of my twins takes a toy from the other one then I tell that one that they shouldn't do it (even though they don't understand everything I say) and then I take the toy and give it back to the one that had it first. What should I do if it's another child that snaches the toy? Sometimes it's not even clear who the mum is so I can't even say anything to her. Should I say anything to her (if I know who she is)? or deal with the child?

They are way too little to understand the sharing concept. Generally there is little point confornting the snatcher and you'd probably upset the mum if you did , so distraction with an alternative is probably better and return to the original when it's discarded. If your child snatches then you can go through the motions of asking them to give it back but that is mroe for parents benefit than the kids !
