Weaning - New style Ikea high chair!

Does anyone have the new Ikea high chair that adapts into a seat?! I bought one thinking they look practical and nice and neat but didn't quite notice that the tray is non-stick. 😩 My youngest is 8months and I'd love to be able to stick a suction bowl onto it so he can help himself to cereal, thick soup etc but nothing sticks. I've tried silicone trays, bowls etc but he just swipes them off accidentally. Has anyone discovered a solution? Some kinda way I can resurface the tray?

Search 'silicone highchair tray' into Google . It should show some trays you get that holds crockery in place and stocks to highchair tray.
I would post a link but currently typing one handed on a dodgy phone with a sleeping baby!

I just use heavy proper bowls for DD. That way they don't slide around the tray.

Same as PP. Use a heavy china bowl. We have never used plastic for the DC and have never had a problem.
I had an old bowl from my childhood, rather like this one. It was great as it has a little lip around the edge so it's very easy for little ones to self-feed with a spoon.

Bamboo bamboo are the only ones with a decent suction. It's not completely toddler proof... they can still pull it off if they learn to manoeuvre it, but its miles better than the others, I tried LOTS. Also looks so much nicer than the plastic ones.

Those that use proper bowls... did they not throw them? My ds threw and smashed a lovely vintage set I had.

DD has broken one plate. I don't give her precious stuff. My crockery is a basic M&S set that is quite solid. I've taught her to keep her plate on the highchair tray. I just have to watch because when she finishes eating she does pick the bowl up to hand it to me so I need to be there to take it from her.

Thanks everyone! I've bought a ridiculous amount of silicone bowls and trays but never considered just using a regular heavy bowl/plate. I'll give it ago! 😁

@slappinthebass Mine didn't, no. I was a bit nervous given that I'd had the bowls / plates for 30+ years but decided I'd rather they were used than sat in the loft, and if they broke, then they broke. Neither child tried to throw them and as they're relatively heavy, they don't tend to get accidentally swiped / knocked like plastic bowls do.
