COLIC!!!!
My LO is 5 weeks old and she has colic and we have tried everything she on Aptimil, infracol, gripe water and Dr brown's bottles.
It is driving me insane the constant screaming from 6pm to 2am every single night even through feeds!! It's getting so stressful and tiring. She's seems constantly hungry even after a bottle or half an hour after a bottle Please if anyone has any more ideas please could you kindly let me know

Poor you - what advice from health visitors or Dr have you had?

Darcyrose0510 · 13/11/2018 02:11

They have said there's nothing they can do just got to let it play out basically

I gave up dairy and switched to cows milk free formula and my baby is 90% better, still a little grizzly in the evenings but nothing like the awful screaming like before. It might be worth a try.

It is awful, so stressful and exhausting. I knew babies cried but I never realised it could be that bad! I hope you find something that helps soon.

I gave up caffeine, which seemed to help too ...

Soiree · 13/11/2018 02:42

Caffeine would be tough!

Cmh77 · 13/11/2018 02:44

I also used to sing (or hum when I got fed up of hearing my own voice!) the same song and consciously try and slow my breathing / singing down to calm ... very hard to do when you feel stressed and tired.
Have you tried a carrier / sling to help and save you being hands on for hours?
Do you manage to get any sleep during the day to catch up?

Cmh77 · 13/11/2018 02:47

Caffeine was tough - they say 72 hours it is out of your system and I said if I could notice a difference then I would stop until I finished feeding. Fortunately (or unfortunately!) - I noticed a big difference!!

Both of mine had colic. I feel your pain OP, it is so, so tough but this too shall pass. Things that helped with mine (helped rather than worked) darkened, quiet room. Swaddling. Holding baby and being as calm as possible, regular, slow breathing and talking to them about something in a soothing, repetitive tone e.g I love you, your daddy loves you, granny loves you etc etc
Also, holding the baby in sleeping lion pose (face down along your forearm) or face down with their tummy across your knees can offer just enough pressure to help a bit.
Something that helps one day may not help the next, so keep trying. It's hard but it does pass and you're doing a great job.

My friends baby had this after many months turned out she was lactose intolerant... and it was more that the poor bubba was in pain from trying to digest it... could this be the cause? X x

We've been in a similar position but thankfully seem to have fixed it. Dr Browns bottles have helped a bit but personally we've found the MAM ones much better - I picked up a new set on Marketplace for £10 to try out. They're amazing because they fit the seal of her mouth perfectly creating a really good latch that doesn't let any air in. Previously when feeding you could feel the bubbles in her tummy but now there's nothing. I had also noticed that her latch before was poor and there was a squeaky noise and that's gone. She's also got an assessment for tongue tie tomorrow as this can lead to bad Colic. Has your LO been assessed by a lactation consultant? (6 midwives all missed tongue tie in my last baby.)

Prior to the MAM bottles I found that giving infacol before a feed, then winding for 20 mins, then giving more infacol and feeding again (followed by more winding), really worked wonders. The HV also suggested raising the end of her crib.

Like a PP we've cut dairy out and that's helped too - but this was under hospital advice, I wouldn't cut it out without at least speaking to the HV or GP.

We were having similar but during the daytime, and then just no sleep from 12am to 8am either. I feel for you - it's awful! We've now cut out milk and soy from my diet (takes three weeks to leave your milk so unfortunately a bit of persistence is needed there) and switched to a hypoallergenic formula whilst we were waiting for my milk to be all clear. We've also started on reflux meds as he has that too (🤦🏻‍♀️), and probiotics. Couldn't tell you which of those is the magic answer as to be honest we were so desperate we just tried everything, but he's finally sleeping up to 3.5 hour stretches at night (compared to the previous 25 minute ones) and is so much happier during the day, so some of those might be worth trying. Good luck!

Try a dummy. I was so anti-dummy prior to having my colicky/reflux baby. But the constant crying broke me and we have DR a dummy at 6 weeks. It was a sanity saver for me and DH and really soothed DS.
If you do try a dummy, be sure to use an age-appropriate one and give before a complete meltdown ensues. Otherwise it's useless!
