Toys for young babies?

LipstickTraces · 09/11/2018 20:41

My twins are 12 weeks old (6 weeks corrected age as premature)

I would like to get them some toys, but I have a limited budget so don’t want to waste money on things that are no good. Recommendations for toys that are suitable for young babies would be much appreciatedSmile I was thinking a baby gym/play mat and something to attach to their Moses baskets?

I don't really have any recommendations because I'm a bit useless with stuff like that, but I can recommend Babipur www.babipur.co.uk and Kidly www.kidly.co.uk for ideas - their stuff is gorgeous!

Teething toys, rattly toys, ones that can (when they're in a pushchair seat) be clipped onto straps (Lamaze type toys with rattles and scrunchy bits etc), soft books with different textures/mirrors, toys that stick onto the high chair tray (again, thinking ahead a couple of months), bath toys will be a good idea in a few months too. I don't like the ones you squeeze water out of though as they can get mouldy on the inside. I like this one: www.amazon.co.uk/Munchkin-Undersea-Explorer-Bath-Toy/dp/B00J57OHWG/ref=pd_aw_lpo_21_lp_img_3?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforum-21&refRID=BRGA8VSF8768HC6ZR69H

Join a local Facebook parent/baby selling page for toys. Toys are ridiculously expensive new and they grow out of them in a couple of weeks.

My DS is a little older but some of his favourite toys are the sensory bottles I made as part of one of the baby classes I do.

A variety of plastic drinks bottles filled with

  1. glitter in water
  2. party confetti in water (it's heavier than the glitter as larger bits but more colours)
  3. half dyed water/ half oil
  4. inch of water mixed with food colouring and washing up liquid (makes bright foam when shaken. This one need renewed every so often as it "does" after a while)
  5. different coloured pipe cleaners which I would round a wooden spoon handle to create spirals
  6. scrunched up bits of tin foil
  7. dyed rice (mix rice with some food colouring and dry in a low oven.. mix a couple of colours).

Glue all the lids down.

Sensory bottles sound great. Thank you.

Just bought some wooden toys off the Babipur website too.

Thank you so much everyone😊

Debenhams have got a couple of baby gyms half price.
Also I got some wrist rattles for my niece’s twins from Home Bargains which they’re enjoying now they’re three months.

Sophie the giraffe is actually great
