Hi mummies,

Just had a call from the HV team to book in my lo 9 month review. They want to come to our house to do this. Is this normal? Also what should I expect? They said they will be sending me a questionnaire in the post. I know all babies develop differently but what if my lo does not “tick the right boxes” for them. Sorry worried first time Mum, any advise appreciated TIA X

Surely it will be similar to the 2/3 mont review where they complete the ages and stages questionnaire to check development? I've only ever seen my HV at my home, I think it's normal practice!

It's all normal. Don't worry!I

They just ask you a few questions about your baby, and that's it really. The

I think they asked about the baby sitting up, rolling over etc. Also checked to see whether baby could pick things up. Really not much and definitely nothing to worry about. If the baby can't do everything, they'll probably only suggest monitoring anyway. It's really just to make sure everything's ok, and to provide support should your child need it. It's not a test Grin

Some areas do the review at a children's centre and some come to your home. Not really an issue.

If your baby is meeting milestones in physical development generally then probably it'll just all get ticked off. The objective is really just to spot if there are any developmental issues cropping up or anywhere baby can use some extra help. Most likely if baby were slow on any skill/milestone they'd just give you some advice on how to help them and encourage them to practice. If any serious concerns (unlikely) they'd refer you on for further support.

Don't stress. It's not a test of you or baby. It's just to help you both in the unlikely event that baby is having any issues with their development.

Had mine a few months back. The questionnaire I was sent was for one year olds so the HV was completely fine with DS not being able to do everything on it. He fell into the grey area on some things and just said to let her know if i had any concerns about these over the next few months but she had none herself and was happy with everything. She did a weigh in and measured his height too and all was good and on track there. Mine was at home too, probably only took about half an hour. Nothing to worry about!

As above. Nothing to worry about. They also asked if my baby had starting eating solids and how that was going. I think they asked if he could pass things from one hand to the other and I actually didn't know (He can, I just had never thought about it and on the spot I went a bit blank)
They weighed and measured him but that was optional, I wanted it though as I hadn't had it done since he was 8 weeks. I had no concerns. She also asked me a bit about safety around the house and if I knew about cupboard locks, stair gates and keeping the ties of blinds out of the way. These safety concerns were set to get more relevant as my baby was starting to get on the move a bit.

Just had my letter, its nothing to worry about. I see my HV every month anyway at clinic to weigh my baby.

They check how you are as well as baby, anf gives you a chance to talk if you have any worries

Yes, it’s really normal for them to come to your house now. It means they can see baby in their usual environment, not a grotty GP surgery that you probably don’t want them crawling around. From what I remember with my first, they basically wanted to see they were sitting well, could pick up and bring a toy to the mouth and checked that they were babbling and making all the right noises, and they asked how I was doing and if I had any questions about weaning or anything else.

It isn't a test, it's just a screening to make sure they are developing normally and there is no cause for concern. If you haven't worried about anything they probably won't be worried either. If there is anything your baby is behind in (unlikely) they will suggest exercises/support to help this develop.
