Carrying toddler on back

Hello,

Taking our (small) 23 month old to Xmas markets in Germany. She’s not great at sitting in the pram for long these days but equally gets tired easy then wants carried!

Last year we used the baby Bjorn but I think she’s a bit heavy now - it’s not comfy.

Does anyone know of a back pack style carrier we could use? She’s not great at sitting up on our shoulders on her own.

Thank you v much!

see if you have a local sling library, that way you can go along and try a few out to see what suits you best and then just hire it for the holiday.

I'd look at something like a Tula if you want a structured type.
My personal preference was for a mei tai but I know not everyone gets on with tying the straps.
We had one of each as my husband prefered to use the Tula.

I agree with a toddler mei tai, very comfortable, I use mine with my 33 month old DS, I find straps much more sturdy than any kind of buckled carrier

Or if you don't have a sling library you can get to, we used this one online - itsaslingthing.co.uk.
We have a lillebaby which I now use to back carry.

I used an ergo- not bulky, backpack style. Easy to get on and off. Can use up to 4 years old

We use a little life carrier for our toddler.

Rose and Rebellion toddler sling is fab. I carried DD for miles in it right up until she was 4yo.

I use an Abc as I prefer the padded waist. I've never quite managed a full wrap back carry.
A buckle carrier that is unstructured so x an fold flat in your luggage sounds the way to go.
Definitely try a sling library between now and then and you can hire the one you prefer to take away with you if you don't want to buy one.
I also still wear my toddler on the front on occasions but would think a narrower based baby bjorn wouldn't be comfortable for either of you

Many thanks everyone, I didn’t know where to start so this is great to get so many ideas - thank you.

IME the Boba structured carrier is the best one for a toddler especially if they are tall. It has footrests for them and it's nice and tall so you can use it for a long time. I also found it goes small enough for my waist which not all carriers do. If you're small framed or plus sized this is something you might want to check as structured buckle carriers will have minimum and maximum sizes. While the Ergo is supposed to be usable to four I find the back is far too low and it is dangerous for toddlers who back arch in tantrums - a carrier with a higher back would be more secure.

Someone once said (may have been on here) that carriers/slings/wraps are like jeans there is not one style that suits everyone you just need to try what works for you.
And practice especially on your back with a toddler - I find it easier sometimes when dh can support while I buckle up and other times he's more of a hindrance! Grin
