Weaning - baby has gone off food

DD is 6.5 months and we've been weaning for 3 weeks now (also EBF). She was making great progress, grabbing and eating root vegetable batons and eating stew off a spoon. However, in the last few days she's gone off food a bit. Finger food is now tossed on the floor, and she doesn't open her mouth properly for spoon. It's the same food! She's not ill or anything, though does seem to be making big strides in sitting up herself (a developmental leap?).

What's going on? Is this normal? I will relax if babies just do this sometimes!

Totally normal! It doesn't mean they don't like what you are feeding them, so don't assume that that's it now they don't like carrot or whatever. Im afraid it can be a bit soul destroying but remember you are not feeding them to fill them up at this stage, it is more just to get them learning about eating and exploring stuff. Milk will still be the main thing. So if she doesn't eat anything then don't worry about it, shove it in the bin and move on. Just keep trying new things (and probably sighing a lot) but never take anything off the menu just because they turn their nose up at something once. The next day (or maybe the 15th time you try it!) they will love it. My daughter is 5 now. She loved rice until she was about 14 months then despised it until she was about 4 years old. Now loves it. It's all about playing the long game, sometimes really long!

Thank you Normandy, that's reassuring to hear. Will keep trying and won't take it personally when she rejects my lovingly crafted batons!

Totally normal. It's not a linear process. There will be many frustrating ups and downs! Just keep offering, and try to stay calm while you scrape your lovingly prepared food in the bin Hmm

Normal, just let her play and don’t push it. Keep trying different things. It will pass. It tends to progress in stops and starts. Just before a big progression, it all usually regresses a bit. Most don’t start off having much at all so sounds like she’s doing great.

Food is for fun before one! Don’t stress.

Thank you everyone - much appreciated it. I think I must just see lots of hungry, impeccably behaved babies around me eating right on cue!
