Can you recommend a food flask for school please?

Hello,

I'm not sure where to post; hope it's OK to do it here.

I wanted to buy my DD (5) a food flask for a hot lunch sometimes at school. I first chose this one (I like the brand, colour, etc.) but cancelled the order when I realised how small it is (290ml).

All the reviews are positive, but I wonder how much food their children can have from it?

I don't intend to give her soup and I need something bigger (over 400 ml for sure) that I won't necessarily fill all the way up. So, please could anyone recommend one that is leak-proof, sturdy and that my daughter can use for years?

Thanks a lot!

I think chillys do them? Their bottles are good

chilledteacher · 07/11/2018 14:04

We have that one OP. Always found it bigger inside than it looks, my DS1 was still having soup in it in year 5.

Hi and thx for your replies!

@Great: thx for the suggestion; I'll look them up online.

@chilled: I won't use it for soup, only for things like pasta, rice, couscous, etc. How much pasta can you put in a 290 ml I wonder? I saw one this morning at Boots and it seemed absolutely tiny and that's 380ml! I may need to look for pics online of that particular flask with food inside so that I can visualise how much can fit in...

I do my daughter pasta some days and got one Asda's own home make for £6 which does the job. It's not too heavy and i think it's 400ml so gets quite a bit in.

I have the one ALemonyPea suggested, I use it for work and can't recommend enough!

SavoyCabbage · 07/11/2018 17:04

I've got both of those. The Funtainer was always big enough for my dd, all the way through primary. It's slightly wider than the other flask and shorter. An advantage of it is it only has one lid to take off whereas the other one has two.

I've attached photos but I on the app so you will on,y be able to see them if you are on app I think.

She says....forgetting to attach them at all...

It's 470mls. It's the one Lemony linked to.

We've also got an Aladdin Bento which is big and really easy to eat out of but it doesn't keep things as hot as the Thermos ones and my DD's lunchtime was 1:40 at primary school.

SunnySomer · 07/11/2018 20:47

We have that thermos one. For food to stay hot you need to fill it to the top: if you fill it to the top with pasta in sauce that’s more than ample for a child. (I use it for me too and find I have plenty of lunch).

Hi all!

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it. I will take into consideration everything you suggested.

Cheers!
