my dd has just cut her 1st tooth much to my surprise no signs or grumpiness at all!! jus dribbling.... but seems very coincendental that the day i noticed the tooth she has had bad diahorria up to 12 times a day, pooing through the night therefore waking her up and bad nappy rash because of it. has anyone else had this with their dd/ds? the hv and doc says this is not because of the tooth but it seems too much of a coincendence to me, it is starting to clear up now (2 wks later fom tooth 1st appearing) strange!!!!

My dd did this.
Always had runny poo at the time, very strange but i'm sure it was always in some way connected!!

Fortunately my chap didn't miss a beat with his (so far) 8 teeth but I have heard that the runny bum thing is due to the increased amount of saliva being swallowed???

muddaofsuburbia · 28/08/2004 18:21

Yes - definitely a link. Kiwicath is right - saliva is alkaline ( I think) and all the dribbling produced during teething reacts with the acid in the stomach. We had nappies straight from the bum of Satan himself when ds was teething.
