Winter Essentials for Autumn Baby

Hi, I'm just after some advice please on clothing for the cold months for my September born LB as I'm pretty clueless! Confused

What is the difference between a pramsuit and a snowsuit? Do we need both? I plan to walk him (and the dog!) outside in the pram regularly and occasionally in a carrier. Would you also get a Cosy Toes type piece for the pram? And any other top tips/buys? TIA

Hello @barnconversion5
DS was born last Oct so I have lots of experience of wrapping up a newborn in the cold!

When it got really cold we him bought a snow suit (Gap have fab ones) and then would layer him underneath. But in the not-so-freezing weather it's just all about layers. Vest, long sleeve top/onesie, trousers, jumper, socks, hand mitts and booties, knitted cardigan or two and a hat then a blanket on top for the buggy. We had a carrycot on our buggy so it had a lid as it were but I'd still put a blanket on top of him inside the carry cot. I think the rule is that they should wear one extra layer than you would. I would get a footmuff thing though, or just really layer up with blankets.

If you want to go really PFB overboard like I did then you can take your thermometer out with you on those early walks

Definitely look online at gap though as they have great stuff and usually crazily good discounts too. Also don't forget that in a sling they have your body temp so they don't need to be as wrapped up.

Congrats though, I've loved having an autumn baby!

Thank you so much for your help @Gimble! X

The layering sounds good and do-able in the clothes we have already inherited / bought for him! I'll definitely check out GAP - I conveniently have a few vouchers for there too and look into a Cosy Toes!

Next have a good choice of all-in-ones that would be suitable for winter. They have a hood which would be able to fit over a lighter weight hat and will keep the neck and ears warm. They have built in mittens too. I'd probably put a blanket over the baby and if it was really cold then I'd consider putting a warm hot water bottle in the pram or pushchair.

For dog walking you may find using asling/carrier useful. You can’t use pram/snow suits (same thing) in carrier or in the car seat. You might want to get a star wrap instead for keeping warm.
