Baby Shower Gift Ideas

Hi everyone,

I'm going to my first baby shower next month, baby due in the new year, and seeing as I don't have my own children I was hoping you seasoned mothers would have some nice ideas for possible gifts? I don't want to get something you end up with millions of and never use etc. but still fun.

Had the idea of something like these?

Then a blanket or soft rattle? Or would some vests be better? Ahhh I love everything!

What would you suggest? What would you have loved to receive? Is a friend of my DH rather than me, so we're not close but she's lovely.

Milestone cards are super cute, I personally forgot to use them after the first week but see lots of people use them or the blankets though.

Muslins will always be used and if you want to get a nice gift Aden and Anais are my fave and stay lovely and soft. TK Maxx also usually have organic cotton muslins cheaper. I really disliked mothercare ones that I had as a gift they went hard and horrible when washed.

Other gifts I had that I used/loved were hooded baby towels, baskets/hampers of useful things like wipes, baby wash etc

We had a few different comforters bought for us, he's never used any of them. He has an Aden and Anais security blanket I bought.

We were bought lots of clothes, outfits etc that I gave to charity as they weren't my taste at all.

Also Lamaze toys are great, we had lots of those from family/friends with children.

Thanks @gilmoregal it's so true about clothes, bit awkward when you're bought something really not your style but feel obliged to use/wear.
Muslins is a good idea, thank you.

It's hard to avoid getting gifts that many others will have bought.
I will say though that I favoured the useful gifts over the cutesy gifts.
If you get clothes, make sure the age and season match. E.g. I got lots of summer clothes for 3-6 months and, now my baby is that age, it's autum/winter. In fact, I've ended up with lots of unworn clothes as babies grow so fast. And the cute outfits are really impractical.
As PP said, hampers are great. I was so grateful for the sheer amount of nappies I got. Didn't have to buy any for DS' first month. Towels, blankets, sleeping bags, soft colourful toys are all a good

AND FONT FORGET A SMALL GIFT FOR MUM A small gesture is always nice to show she has been thought about and isn't jiust a vessel.

Would really recommend these if you have £20 to spend, also makes muslins more of a gift as they're a posh muslin.

I agree gift for Mum is lovely, but would think that would be from her friends. I had some lovely gifts for me from work, and my closest friends who organised an afternoon tea for us prior.

I received lots of boots vouchers which was useful.
Agree with hard muslin comment, mothercare, Asda and ikea were the worst.
How much do you want to spend?
I would suggest just a small token at the baby shower because you will probably want to buy a gift again once baby is actually here.

Ooh sleeping bag is a good idea! I love those.
Or nappies/wipes along with something else more cutesy.
I agree, I think her closest friends will likely know her better and get her something herself she likes e.g. her favourite sweet treat or toiletries

Sorry x-post @NorthernRunner we already have something small for baby (little comforter) we got from a recent trip away DH and I couldn't resist, so thinking something to go with that. We already know it's a girl. True, could stay small then get something else for our first visit once baby arrives, good idea :)

You're all so helpful!
