My brother turned on his side in the hospital crib and hes 38! I think its fine but you are the mummy...could you phone the maternity ward?

ShovingLeopard · 05/11/2018 23:38

Mine did this. It is indeed a worry. Is your DC underweight/ slim? Mine was, and it stopped once she put weight on.

universe00 · 05/11/2018 23:41

No she was a 10lb baby. Every time I move her back she goes back on her side I'm guessing she's more comfy but I know they keep saying to make sure baby's are on their backs

Is it always the same side? If so prop the mattress a tiny bit so she rolls back on to her back.

Could be wind have you tried gently rubbing the side, rub belly circularly and pumping legs ( don’t force legs). My baby does this for wind Smile

flumpybear · 06/11/2018 00:03

I'm guessing wind too, as you hold her front to your front, her tummy at the back is on your right side so use your right hand to rub and gently pat her til
Wind comes up ... imo it takes ages to get all the wind up

My little girl did this for the first few weeks I remember worrying too & kept rolling her onto her back. She stopped doing it after about a month. Must just be something they do

InConstantNeedOfAGin · 06/11/2018 00:10

My 8 month old done this. Now she sleeps on her side every night and every nap time. She seems to prefer it! I worried when she was a newborn, so I rolled up a small towel and put it in front of her when she slept at night so she couldn't roll onto her front while she was on her side but could still roll onto her back. Maybe you could try this for peace of mind? I just made sure the towel wasn't anywhere near her face!

Mine did this, always to the same side. Her doctor advised us to put a small wedge (a folded-up newborn napoy) at her hip level to discourage the rolling. We placed it underneath the tightly-fitted sheet. However, I would definitely check with your doctor or midwife to be sure there is no specific risk factors for your baby as obviously it isn’t completely in accordance with the “empty cot” guidance.

ShovingLeopard · 06/11/2018 00:20

Ah, so much for that theory! Your DC was almost twice the weight of mine!

Like pps, with DD this was a sign that she would later firmly prefer to sleep on her side.

I agree, speak to the midwife, they may have advice, and hopefully reassurance. I was always paranoid about DD, so we got a Snuza Hero breathing alarm, which provided much peace of mind, especially after she developed reflux.
