Baby’s age?

amyelizabethxx · 04/11/2018 07:07

So I’ve spoke to and googled how old my baby actually is in months, he was born 25th March 2018, so he is technically 32 weeks, but google and my bounty app say he is 7.3 months, but I thought 32 weeks would be 8 months, and people I have asked have different opinions saying he is 8 months or that he is still in his 7 month. So I’m just wondering how everyone else works this out, which one is he?

Does it matter?

LittleBearPad · 04/11/2018 07:12

Each month doesn’t have exactly four weeks in it - some have closer to four and a half weeks.

As to whether they are 7 or 8 months be as specific as you like though it really doesn’t matter, sorry.

NewBabyNoName · 04/11/2018 07:13

There are not exactly 4 weeks in every month which is why you are getting different answers. If he was born at the end of March he's now just over 7 months.

Wow don’t they teach maths anymore?

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/11/2018 07:14

I’d say 8 months. Every month doesn’t have exactly 4 weeks. Google and the app aren’t counting for the exact date, and dates are what we actually use to measure the passing of time.

JellySlice · 04/11/2018 07:16

For months you go by the calendar.

Whiskeyjar · 04/11/2018 07:22

He will be a month older each time you pass the 25th of the month

amyelizabethxx · 04/11/2018 07:49

Thanks, to the people who say do they teach maths anymore, sorry I am over exhausted from my baby boy, and my brain obviously isn’t functioning aswell as it could be, and it matters to me when people are asking me how old he is..

People don't care how old baby is to the day or week, they just mean roughly how old is he, 8/9/10 months is all they need to hear!

eilidh1986 · 04/11/2018 07:57

U honestly can't ask anything on mumsnet without getting a sarcastic bitchy reply! Can't stand the negativity of some folk who clearly know everything there ever is to know about everything!

I was getting confused by this too when trying to workout how many months pregnant I am so don't worry your not alone! Congratulations on your 7-8 month baby x

SoyDora · 04/11/2018 07:59

People really aren’t looking for an accurate, to the minute answer. Just a general idea. He isn’t 8 months yet as there are generally more than 4 weeks in a month. He’s just over 7 months.
Unless the people asking are HCP’s who need to know his exact age for a reason, it really doesnt matter.

amyelizabethxx · 04/11/2018 08:00

Thank you, tbh when your overtired things like this just don’t work in your head, the comments actually did upset me, when your a first time mum with no mum friends you come here for support and you get sarcastic comments, makes you not want to ask anything again, and next time I won’t bother!

I am a bit confused by these sort of questions on MN though... do people not know that there aren’t 4 weeks in most months and therefore you can’t just divide or multiply by 4 to figure out weeks into months?

BertramKibbler · 04/11/2018 08:03

i go by the same date each month to count months and then just state which ever month they are closest to if that makes sense.

MrsL2016 · 04/11/2018 08:16

Sorry you have had some arsey replies OP. My baby was born the day before yours and will be 8 months on the 24th of this month. I have lost track of the weeks and just do months now. I completely get about the brain not seeming to be able to do the simplest things though. I hope your baby boy is giving you plenty of joy and not just a headache when you try to make your tired brain work hard.

E20mom · 04/11/2018 08:19

Use calendar months to work out the age once the baby's born.

Nomnomhiccup · 04/11/2018 19:38

Either count age in weeks or month by a calendar. Don't try work out month by dividing weeks. We tend to count a month as 4weeks, which 4x7 =28 and all bar one month has more than 28days so its not accurate

NameChangeCuddleBums · 05/11/2018 13:17

7 months.

MinionMania · 05/11/2018 13:22

He's 7 months old. On November 25th, he will be 8 months old.

dementedpixie · 05/11/2018 13:22

I would say he was just over 7 months. He will be 8 months on 25th of November

Nothisispatrick · 05/11/2018 13:23

I count the months from hey birthday, so she was born 29 September so she was one month old on 29 October, she is five weeks old.

Rachelover40 · 05/11/2018 13:29

Will be seven months on 25th October.

What does it matter? I don't remember counting weeks, etc., with mine. They were either one 'thing' or 'nearly' or 'just past', but was not a big deal. Nor anyone I knew.

Fatted · 05/11/2018 13:32

I had a March baby and by this stage I stopped counting! It was 'six months' , 'just over six months' and then 'almost a year' when asked how old he was.
