Baby dribbling milk

SelinaMyers · 03/11/2018 13:44

DD is 14 days old and I am having some issues with her drinking milk. I am bottle feeding and milk is always coming out of her mouth. She is going through bibs and sleep suits like nobodies business!
We have been using Tomee Tipee teets, I have tried a variation of these as well as a colic bottles but these have made no difference. Baby’s weight is good and she is not tounge tied.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on your new LO OP Thanks

Just wondering if you are feeding on demand or to a schedule?

SelinaMyers · 03/11/2018 20:08

Thank you Jilted! I’m feeding on demand.

Has she ever been checked for tongue tie?

Tommee tippee are awful bottles. Try MAM, NUK or Dr Brown and see if it is any better.

I'd suggest tongue tie too. Basically they can't curl their tongue sufficiently to form a seal around the teat. It can be snipped really easily but you might find the NHS won't treat if you're formula feeding.

gallicghoul · 04/11/2018 07:49

Just seen you said not tongue tie but I'd question who checked because the average GP or midwife isn't trained and some can be harder to spot.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 04/11/2018 07:56

Yes sorry, I missed the bit where you said not tongue tied too. Totally agree with gallic, if I had a £1 for every MNer who’d been told by their HCP that there was no tt, only to find out later it was there, well, id have a lot of £1s Smile

I’d get her checked by a Tongue Tie Practioner.

SelinaMyers · 04/11/2018 11:27

Thanks everyone- she’s been checked by a paediatrician and a midwife. I’ll look into the practitioner and order some of the bottles suggested! Thanks for the advice!

Unless the Paed and MW have had Specialist training on tt, unfortunately they’re unlikely to be able to spot it. I’m not saying that it’s definitely tt but I certainly wouldn’t exclude the possibility yet. Have a read of this on Milk Matters Smile
