How do your children spend the weekends? what is their social life like?

Just wondering how do your children spend their weekends and what their social life is like. My children have some activities and sometimes see friends and we do things as a family, go on holidays and get them involved in the house shores but in general I feel we got lots of spare time and I would like them to see friends more often, however I feel that people is always full of activities, commitments and it can be difficult to organise things. I am not sure it is because we live in London and there is always a lot going on and the fact that we don't have family around doesn't help as my husband and I are from different countries.

I grew up spending time on the weekends with my friends, roller-skating, bike riding and running and playing on the streets, going swimming, etc. but I feel this doesn't happen anymore; despite living in a street with lots of children we barely know them and my children friends are mainly from school. I question whether they are really having a nice childhood and whether perhaps we should move somewhere else or if it is like that everywhere now and we just need to get them in more activites.

My children do swimming and one or two other activities but otherwise we go to parks: national trust/ visit grandparents. Or they sometimes have a birthday party.

I know what you mean op- when I was a kid we lived on a street with lots of families with kids and we'd all knock about at someone's house or outside if it was nice. I don't know the other kids on our street , and we don't really have family friends, just dh and I have our own friends who we see sometimes. I do feel like our weekends are a bit boring and focussed on our nuclear family but we don't seem to have managed being friends with other families, which I think can provide a social life for kids.

DS1 does sport on Saturday morning. Then has a swimming lesson. He's currently playing feckin fortnite. He's 10.

DS2 usually goes to see DHs dad with him. Then he does swimming. He's currently watching tv. He's 8.

There used to be playdates but this has tailed off. I hated playdates anyway.

Sunday we try and go for a walk / do something.

I dont think there's anything wrong with having a less social weekend.

As a child I remember meeting friends locally like you, but actually rarely at the weekend as most had 'family stuff' on. We mainly met up after school or in the school holidays.

I think children have a lot more pressure to do better, have more activities and be proactive every waking hour now. Sometimes just chilling out with a book, or going on a family week can be more benifitical to them nowadays. Its time to relax, and not rush.

From 7 my kids did Saturday morning orchestra and Sunday they're choristers. Quite full on when they were young and I had to drive but they are adults now. Eldest still is a choral scholar but grabs a lift with the organist.

Thank you. I guess most of the children socialising these days happens through school and extra curricular activities.

I just wonder if it is like that everywhere or is it the place/city/ country we live in. I just think it is a bit boring for the kids but they don't know any better and seen OK with it.
