Weaning 18 month old off milk and bottles

Hi I am looking for some advice on how to cut down the amount of milk my 18 month old
dd is having and getting her to take milk from a cup rather than a bottle.

My dd is milk mad and will ask for it all through the day. I usually give in and give her a couple of small bottles in the day as well as a morning and bedtime bottle.

I think her appetite is being affected by this now. She would happily have a bottle instead of lunch if I let her.

I've tried milk out of various different cups but she won't drink it unless it's in a bottle and gets herself very upset and worked up if I don't give it her.

What is the best way to cut down on the amount of milk she is having? And also to cut out the daytime bottles?

I know the answer is probably just to not give it to her but I am looking for slightly gentler way if it exists because this is a massive comfort to her at the moment and I feel awful when she's so upset asking for milk.

Thanks for for your help.

How much is she drinking over a day?

No advice but I'm following with interest as I have the same problem. My 21 month old son is starting to drink more and more milk and eat less food. He consumes 2 pints a day.

Lori if it’s affecting his appetite I would cut back. If he’s having a bottle before breakfast, I’d just go straight to breakfast instead. If he asks for a bottle offer him a cup of milk and a snack instead, just ignore any tantrums. I’d stick with the bottles before his nap and bed for now. You can cut those back when he’s got used to not having bottles at other times Smile

Can I ask what centiles he is on too Lori? The recommended minimum they should be having between 12 and 24 months is 300 ml, your DS is having is over 1100 ml.
